Happy Birthday [livejournal.com profile] mintwaster!

I couldn't decide, so you get a lot today.

I am lucky lucky lucky. And totally in love with my friends right now.

I had perfect weather today -- not too hot, sunny, breezy. And I had lovely and amazing people come to my house to sit outside in said weather and help me eat 100 pieces of fried chicken. These said people brought their desserts and sidedishes made with love, their delicious pies from stores, their bottles of wine and beer and cider, and their charm. Some people brought me an amazing birthday card art piece involving a typewritten story based on my name, a turquoise earring, and an International Male model. Some people brought -- on their bike with a trailer! -- a giant cooler of sodas and ice. Some people (like the one I live with) commissioned homemade empanadas from her co-worker, helped procure the above-referenced chicken, as well as other general hosting duties like sending people home with leftovers and cleaning up the kitchen afterwards. Everyone was gone by 9:15 pm and all that is left is some flattened grass, a (still) sparkling clean apartment, and a fridge stuffed with goodies.

And one friend took some stellar shots of the first half of the picnic. (The second half of the picnic featured about dozen or more people, dimmer lighting as the sun set, and a lot more chicken bones and empty beverage cans.)

I woke up to a massive sneezing allergy attack and also to the news that a $200 check cleared unexpectedly yesterday (I thought they were going to wait until the date of my residency to cash that down payment). But! Its my birthday and I'm not really all that bothered by these things. I'm going to go to the store to buy cream for coffee, and probably some dessert-like treats, and then JT is coming over at lunchtime to play guitar with me.

In honor of the day, please watch this video which was very formative to my pop culture aesthetic on many levels: choreographed group dancing, women in drag, dominatrix chic, awkward chanting, sexist media fallout the next day (c'mon! her thighs look so hot!), shameless enthusiasm, and, of course, horny horns.

I've been having a bit of birthday blues this week, and today and tomorrow its supposed to be all grey and rainy, which doesn't exactly help. But it does help to be showered with gifts from [livejournal.com profile] dommeyourass, including a spontaneous lunch with her today consisting of takeout from Smoque (plus a side salad made from various leafy things from our first farm share of fruits and vegetables). Then while we were watching the movie Into the Wild, the UPS guy came and delivered one of my birthday gifts. This camping hammock!

Right this very second, it looks slightly disturbing to me, I must confess, I think because it seems slightly claustrophobia-inducing, but obviously it is breathable and has vents and whatnot. I'm also feeling trapped inside my office at work, so curling up into something smaller isn't appealing. But once outside, it will be wonderful. Its currently still in its compact package, I haven't tried it out yet. Here's hoping for some sun tomorrow or Friday, and if so, I want to head out to the forest preserve and find two trees and take a birthday nap.

List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they’re not any good, but they must be songs you’re really enjoying now, shaping your spring summer. Post these instructions in your blog along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to see what they’re listening to.

I'm a couple hours early, but she's gone to bed and is getting up super early so I figured I'd get a jumpstart.....
