I successfully removed the fire-hazard from the apartment last night, while Sparky looked on. Perhaps it was a bad idea to smoke a cigarette while carrying a large flammable dried out piece of wood down to the dumpster. But no matter -- there was no Towering Inferno produced. I also washed dishes from xmas, returned the movies, and sufficiently hacked up the turkey and threw away the carcass. All in all, a productive evening. And made more entertaining by [livejournal.com profile] freakysparks presence. She also got me the most fabulous gift ever: a Ralphie t-shirt. I will be sporting it in California when I can probably actually go sleeve-less.

I really wanted the day off today, but alas I'm here like a good little worker monkey.

This morning I've been entertaining myself with reading scathing reviews of movies that have been marginally succesful in the box office as well as in tricking people into thinking they are clever or deep or groundbreaking. The phenomenon infuriates me, but I never actually write any sort of reviews in a public forum regarding it, because I draw a line for myself that I usually label with "not worth it" or "calm the fck down". However, I love reading the words of folks who do write such over-the-top wonderfully critical (and sometimes bitter) pieces on how much the film sucks. Hell, I even enjoy reading these reviews when I DO like the movie, but that happens infrequently. Because I usually am the first to deem something as overblown crap. My favorite line is usually, "yeah, I liked that movie a lot when I saw it the first time and it was called ___(insert name of older movie with same concept but better)____." I'm such an ass sometimes.

I think I will spend my lunch at Tower redeeming a gift certificate. Nothing like acquiring possessions to substitute finding spiritual relief. Or something.
