Reporting Live from the Wax Museum
Jul. 12th, 2002 01:37 pmI made it safe and sound to wonderful Queens, New York, and hopped a bus to Grand Central. I found the hostel/hotel, and despite being frightened by my ability to touch both walls of the room at the same time without unbending my elbows, I went ahead and paid for 3 nights.
I spent a great evening with
danielray who walked me all over the East Village for dinner, drinks in multiple locations, Forbidden Planet shopping, and a tour of my hostel room (that took about 0.5 seconds). Every once in awhile I would be struck by his remarkable resemblance to David, my best friend in high school and college (before we lost touch) -- not exactly the physical features, but definitely his voice and speech patterns and general mannerisms. It was somewhat eerie at times. But luckily I like David a lot so I liked Daniel a lot. IF he's not stuck in NJ the rest of the weekend, there's a small chance we'll see ech other again.
Today I slept in a little, despite the small bed (I'm pretending that I"m traveling in Paris or Japan -- it's literally the size of a dressing room and the bed is about 3/4 the size of a regular twin, and the doors and walls don't extend all the way up to the ceiling, much like dressing room). I bought my bus ticket for Sunday, visited another comic book shop (I'm addicted), and now I'm wandering up to the Virgin megastore before hopping a train down to the Village for people watching and bookshopping before heading down to Wall Street to meet up with folks from headquarters. Drunkenness, food, and scandalous office gossip will hopefully ensue. Tomorrow is food and time spent with an old college friend.
Thanks for the good vibes on my trip, and a good weekend to all. I will hopefully read my friends page at some point in DC. Though I may return to this fabulously cheap cyber cafe in Times Square next door to the Wax Museum -- it only cost one dollar for 29 minutes. Of course, i only have 2 minutes left now, so I should post this before it expires.
