raybear: (...and that)
Last night after work I earned some geek points by seeing the new Star Trek movie on opening night. I got teased by a couple co-workers on my way out the door (including Slim), to which I replied, "how did YOU know it was opening night??"

I wasn't the only person on my friends page who saw it. And two people commented in posts right next to each other. I will post excerpts, leaving out the authors for the sake of not trying to start some sort of flaming discussion or make either one feel targeted:

First I read this:

Go see this fine film. If you're a Trek fan, it definitely has earned your support. For you film lovers in general, it's a well-scripted and acted film well worth your time and money.

Then I read this:

Nemesis was just... oh god. So horrible.
It's amusing as I got like ANGRY over it. I just got so pissed on the way the plot was laid out, on the horrific dialogue and the script, and the scores of HORRIFICALLY ILLOGICAL actions that the characters took within the movie.

I was very amused. I agree with the first person's assessment about it being the best movie since Wrath of Khan and being high enjoyable, but I think it's a stretch to say it was well-scripted and well-acted and I wouldn't really recommend the movie to anyone who wasn't a star trek or sci-fi fan.

Why the hell was Troi weepy the ENTIRE movie? She's cried like three times in the entire series, but she cried approximately 15 times in the movie. But it got somewhat redeemed by hearing those precious precious words: "Troi, you have the bridge."

And damn the doctor's still hot. But, how fucking sexy was the evil guy? I just want to rub his bald head and chew on those big lips. I was sort of sad he didn't win.

Off to the grocery store for the party tonight!!
