The phone rang.
"Hello?"
"Hi. Hey. Hey, it's _______."
"Hey. I don't think you've ever called me on this line before."
"That's because I'm not calling for you. I'm calling for [Lowenstein]."
"Ah, yes. She's not here, she's at work. Do you have her cell?"
"Yeah, I think so. So....I went to the party last night, but you had already left!"
"Yeah, we left pretty early because we were tired and had to ride home."
"I think I saw you leave."
"Oh yeah? You were at the party already and I missed you?"
"No, I was several blocks away, but I think it was you. And I thought, if that's him leaving as I'm arriving, I'm not sure I've ever met two people more cosmically disconnected than we are right now."
"Yeah. I know." Beat. "I hope this doesn't mean I'll have some sort of freak accident that will prevent me from being at your birthday tomorrow."
"Me too."
