raybear: (mr. lunch)
My second dawn in a row this week. Or rather, the second one I've been awake for and seen out the window. I guess they happen every day whether I'm asleep or not. One thing about being up this early is watching music videos. We don't have cable, but one of the local access channels shows MTV2 from Midnight to 8am, so this morning I've gotten to catch up a little bit, except mostly it's been "new rock" videos which are boring.

Yesterday I got up at 5:30 and worked on my fiction worshop submission. Around 7:30, it was ready to mail, so I got dressed and left for the law library where I did three hours of copying. Then I went over to the Hothouse to learn how to install art which is pretty fcking hard, or at least exhausting and at times tedious, but at the end I think I did an okay job and would maybe even be convinced to do it again. When I finally made it to [ profile] louche's birthday dinner, I was so sleepy and achey and my left knee hurt from standing improperly all day (locking my knee too much), but I'm still glad I went since I got to see lots of folks, even for a few moments and even if I was having a hard time hearing. I also got to completely offend [ profile] mintwaster as we were having communication difficulties and my comments/jokes weren't coming out correctly. I guess the more tired I am, the more racist I get.

Last night I kept dreaming I was in bed with someone else, but I couldn't figure out who it was. I kept trying to feel their arm, or body, or roll over and open my eyes. I would run down my list of possible prospects: lovers or friends who's bed I might show up in. But whenever I'd get close to figuring it out, I'd fall back asleep.

I have a few more hours of work to do today, but I'm not stressing about it. This week's theme is "do the best you can", and assuming it's the truth and I'm not just half-assing it out of fear or lazyness, then it's okay. And I don't think I could be accused of lazyness this week.

Tomorrow, I'm on the road to New Orleans. While I wish at least one of the three checks that are supposedly in the mail had arrived before the trip, I'm still planning on having a great time. I'm even looking forward to 14 hours in a van, especially since we're breaking it up and planning to stay overnight in Memphis. It's the Barbecue Tour '04. I have a friend born and raised in Chicago, and when she talks about southern barbecue, she calls it "'cue". I was born and raised in the South, and never heard it called that until I came here.

Now I'm hungry.
