I woke up this morning to an e-mail from my father. He's leaving town tomorrow, so I guess I can wait to write him back. The e-mail had positive words, but it still just made me feel sad.

I still haven't tackled organizing the office. But I did buy some materials to help, amongst a hundred errands this morning. I'm nearly done with five loads of laundry. I even organized the dog food. (Don't ask, it's more complicated than it sounds but just as boring.)

I have written a page yet, but I've started my reading. And everyday I'm excited to check the mail because all the used books I ordered last week are arriving one or two at a time. Every day is [gift-giving holiday]! Except I paid for them. My list for this semester is a little insane, but I'm staying motivated and excited. I initially wrote "trying" to stay motivated, but changed it in an effort to make my life and attitude more positive all around. Yeah, I know.

Any interest in sharing the wrestling of text with me? Let me know if you've read one of these or if you want to read it along with me.
Here's my reading list for the next six months:

Cloud Atlas -- David Mitchell
The Golden Notebook -- Doris Lessing
The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne -- Brian Moore
Foam of the Daze -- Boris Vian
A Boy's Own Story -- Edmund White
Closer -- Dennis Cooper
Meditations in Green -- Steven Wright
The Plague -- Albert Camus
Child of God -- Cormac McCarthy
Honored Guests -- Joy Williams
Democray -- Joan Didion
Tomorrow in the Battle Think On Me -- Javier Marias
*Johnny Got His Gun -- Dalton Trumbo
*The Virgin Suicides -- Jeffrey Eugenides
*Correction -- Thomas Bernhard
*Iceland -- Jim Krusoe

The bottom ones aren't in my 'contract', so if I don't get to them, it's not as big a deal. Oh, plus the reading for my critical paper on "long sentences" (an expansion of my five-page paper written last semester), including some Henry James. As much as I'd like to read Portrait of a Lady, it doesn't fit my timeline. I think I'll do The Aspen Papers instead.

Oh, and here's my brief review on Bad Education:
spoiler-less, for the most part, but just in case.... )
Tonight, Ocean's 12 at bargain movie night. I've read nothing about it because I've been so far removed from media the past two weeks, so hopefully it doesn't suck. Don't tell me yet, wait until tomorrow. Since I'm only paying five dollars and I get a small popcorn, my only true expectation is that everyone looks pretty and dresses well.
