Sunday Morning Music Meme
Jun. 5th, 2005 08:12 amLast night I ended up having a lot of fun DJing the youth prom. Those kids can dance. They were soooo good, and it makes being a DJ hella fun to see so many people throwing down to a song I picked and love as well. So in the spirit of music.....
thirdreel tagged me.
List six songs that get you all hot these days. I'm assuming it means in a sexy way.
1. The Truth by Handsome Boy Modeling School. This is from their first album and I loved it when
thebrownhornet used to play it in our apartment and I bought the Galt McDermot record with "Cold Coffee" on it (which is sampled) because the piano is so fcking sexy on this song, and I don't normally think of piano as a hot instrument. Add Roisin Murphy's vocals which are mostly ethereal but sometimes growly. "Go.....go to the mountain if you must."
2. Filthy and Gorgeous by Scissor Sisters. My new favorite on the dance floor and usually involves lots of strutting, posing, and thrusting. This is a "solo-sexy" song for me, in that I actually prefer to dance to it alone and the mood of the song is less about feeling hot for another and more about feeling sexy by yourself.
3. Come Here Boy by Imogen Heap.
broqued copied this album for
mintwaster and
drinkasyoupour and they listened to it all the time which made me go find it for myself. The title kind says it all. It's slow and dramatic and intense in a hipster slowdance way, a la Mirah or Sia.
4. Wake Up by Waldeck. This is the current favorite song in our household, heard several times on our road trip last weekend. I'm almost afraid to listen to it right now for fear of burning it out. Trip-hop beat + female vocalist + quasi-spiritual lyrics = I'll probably love it.
5. One Thing (remix) by Amerie f. Eve. I didn't like this one at first, because I was loving J-Lo's Get Right and they sounded just alike (same producer), but the more I hear this one, the more I must confess it might be superior. It's another favorite on the dance floor -- I'm usually drawn to songs that people say are difficult to dance to, because it forces me to change my moves up and pay more attention. This song has a fast crazy horn sample and works best with some slow step moves.
I'm supposed to tag more folks to fill out this meme, though obviously it's free for anyone to steal. But I nominate:
broqued,
louche,
bias_cut,
ohclandestine,
bigfatmama,
isis_venomz,
brothernumber3 and
vfc.
