Around 4:30 pm today I realized I hadn't received a text message since Thursday evening. And I'd had a couple "missed calls" but no voicemail in DAYS. I think it was starting to wear on my esteem a bit, like gddamn everyone is too busy to even text me back answers to my questions. Funny how each time I managed to write off the individual case, but I didn't really add it up for awhile. Something's funny with my phone but it seems to be mostly better, after turning it off then on. So if you've texted me anytime between Thursday night and now, I haven't gotten it. And now I have to return 6 phone calls from all the messages that piled up.
We painted our kitchen. Finally. It's kind of cheese-like in its orangeness.
dommeyourass and I say that we are tentatively in love with it, I think it's just taking some adjustment because it's very vivid and bright. But it does make me hungry, which I suppose a kitchen should do. I'm cooking right now.
This afternoon I found my way up to Evanston, not wanting to work a bit, so I found distractions, wandering into bookstores then buying food at the yuppie grocery store and then going to the lake to sit and eat by the lake. Then I found the library and did at least a little work. I got to the train station just in time, before the heavens opened up and the train was moving through the grey tunnel of the thunderstorm with the occasional sparks of lightning and snare drum snaps of thunder right behind them. When I got off to change trains, I was under a roof but it did not protect me from the heavy wall of water blown over me by the strong hurricane like winds. I'm not trying to exaggerate, this did remind me off hurricane induced thunderstorms I've experienced in Georgia and Florida -- it just lasted 5 minutes instead of 5 hours.
But I made it home with my front half mostly dry.
I had other stuff to write about, but I'm too hungry and dinner is almost ready. I'm eating both corn on the cob and cornbread, as well as black eyed peas. Too bad I'm out of sweet tea.
