So it's one more round for experience
Dec. 20th, 2005 06:11 pmThanks, folks, for the dozens of congratulations about my master's degree. I still can't quite believe it. I was just having usual post-residency comedown/withdrawl/disbelief, but now it's starting to kick in that, hey, I'm done. I know it sounds all hokey, but I really do feel like I'm just beginning. Like I spent 2 years in a program just to learn how to say "I'm a writer" and now I will spend the rest of my life learning how to be it. Or at least be the one I want. At dinner on my last night in L.A., in a mexican restaurant in Los Feliz which is my absolute favoritest part of the city because of the food, Nori and I agreed that our favorite piece of advice from all five residencies was Gaspar saying: You have to be the writer who writes the novels.
We don't totally know what it means. Except it makes perfect sense to us.
And now I have to tackle re-integration.
