Sophie is constantly trying to catch squirrels, which mostly involves her standing on her hind legs against a tree and whining. This morning, she cornered one on the neighbor's porch and the squirrel, being young and therefore smaller in size, speed, and cleverness, darted in the wrong direction as well as started panicking, so Sophie actually CAUGHT IT. In her mouth. And the squirrel was scrambling and squeaking and I started yelling at Sophie to drop it, and she did, mostly because I think she was confused and put off by it squirming and noisemaking, and then I grabbed Sophie and the squirrel ran crookedly and limpingly to a hole in the fence and escaped. I'm not sure how hard Sophie clamped down and if it will survive. But at least I don't have to clean up the mess. Honestly, that was all I was thinking about when I saw Sophie initially make the catch -- oh god, that's going to be a bloody, gross, pathogenic mess that I can't handle this morning. Plus, I was wearing brand new pants and my tea was steeping upstairs and needed to have the tea bag removed.

Speaking of new pants, I was very happy that I am a vain faggot because if I hadn't taken the time to turn around to see how my ass looks in these new pants, I wouldn't have seen the tag in the back pocket still sticking out. Saved from embarassment by vanity!

Ok, I confess I am a little worried for the injured squirrel.

Yesterday was Home Day, which means lots of random chores like laundry and scrubbing the tub and taking the air conditioners down to the basement. I also baked bread, specifically raspberry-cinammon bread and it is simply amazing. I'm making bread by hand, as I have no food processor or bread machine and it's not nearly as difficult as I thought, but there are certain nuances I'm starting to learn. Next on the bread experiment list: crackers.

Last night on a date with myself, I learned that cheap spanish wine goes really well with salted buttered popcorn and that Alfred Hitchcock's Notorious lives up to the hype.
