We have a new stove! In our kitchen! That works! And an old stove sitting on our back porch!!

Wait, I wasn't supposed to be excited about that last part.

Between the hours of 8:30 am and 4 pm today, I spent four of those hours making copies and the other four and half hours either on a train, a bus, or on foot, getting up to two libraries in Evanston, than to the law library by the MCA, than to the office in the loop. I was pretty fcking tired when I rolled into the office. Wait, what do I mean "was"? I am. I can barely focus on this sudoku puzzle! Also, I didn't really eat anything after breakfast, but right this moment I'm chowing down on a big plate of greek food. Mmmmm, charred meat.

Luckily it only takes about 20-30 minutes to get home at night, door to door. I am amazed how crowded the train is every night though. It's not crammed in the doors crowded, but half the time I stand, the other I'm lucky to get one of the last remaining seats. It seems to me that half of them are students from one of the dozen colleges downtown, the other half are late-working types of some variety. But it's not empty, it's not alone.

I could probably take cabs home most every night if I wanted, at the company's expense, but I'd have to pay out of pocket and they'd reimburse me the following paycheck and I can't afford that right now. Once the regular paychecks come in, next month, I guess. But I don't mind the train really. The station is only a few short blocks on both ends, it's economical, it affords me people-watching time or reading time or ipod time or all of the above, it's not much slower than a cab, and I don't have to make awkward conversation with anyone. I'm ok with not having a car, except for days like today which were exhausting. But I'm sure there will be some bitter cold nights in January where I'll take full advantage of it.

Tomorrow I can do the rest of my work at home in pajamas. Mmmm. Home.
