I'm breaking tradition and posting first, reading friends page later.

My good man Riley recently commented on a journal about the song "I should be so lucky (lucky lucky lucky)" mentioned in the subject, and I'm THRILLED that he asked. I knew the song was some brit pop new wave song from the late 80's, but had forgotten the artist, so I typed the title into the google search engine, and guess what I learned? It was none other than the brilliant international superstar Kylie Minogue. Seriously. It's the first cut on her greatest hits album which came out in 1992. Of course, I had the song stuck in my head from watching a French & Saunders skit, not because I was jamming to Kylie.

Yesterday I stayed home sick -- my tonsils kept swelling, then going to normal, then swelling, then going to normal. Plus I was a little feverish and achey, but all seems okay now. It no longer hurts when I swallow (no comments, please).

So instead of spending all day in the office making labels and punching holes and researching topics and surfing the web, I played Grand Theft Auto III, went to the dog park and read the new issue of Spin magazine, played GTA III, took a nap, played GTA III, watched the movie TimeCode, played GTA III. I love this game. My review of TimeCode is not as stellar, but I'm glad I finally saw it.

While napping yesterday, I also had a dream where I was Tony Soprano, MelRo was my Edie Falco, and Sophie was -- get this -- my toddler daughter. Very strange. I was stressing about getting out of "the business" because I was putting the safety of my family at risk. I really playing Grand Theft Auto III.

Last night I went over to Lauren's house (sorry for the lack of clever nickname) and we made our usual dinner of box cheesey pasta with tuna and green peas. More on the discussions later, though we did watch American Idol and Fox news. Best. If by best, I mean worst. Which I do.

I'm hoping I can convince Shawna to let us have a PS2, as I am addicted to GTAII for PS, and really want to try out GTAIII (as well as Britney's Dance Beat and Silent Hill2 - oh the shame).

Is it true GTAIII has ladies of the night that you can pick up and make the vans rock?

For shame...

I presumed that you, of course, knew that was a Kylie hit. Tsk, tsk.

I haven't gotten any action from the hookers -- I've only taxi'ed them around as a favor for the mob boss who always specifies to keep my hands off. But maybe as the game progresses.....

I tried to play GTA II on Dreamcast and just thought it was okay. This game has all the great elements of Crazy Taxi and Driver mixed in. The graphics are so so amazing, and the AI is possibly smarter than me. It makes the purchase of a PS2 worth. Seriously. Best birthday gift I ever received and I will be long indebted to MelRo (tell Shawna that, it might help your argument!)

I forgot about it. I know, I deserve to be shamed.

I will have to add the eternal gratitude angle to the PS2 debate, hopefully it will work.

I l-o-v-e that French and Saunder's sketch. Craig and I walk around the house with tubs of ice cream, fluttering our hands and pretending we've been caught on camera, saying, "It's for my throat."

I like to bust out occasionally with "I, I, I, I, I, I, I" in a bad falsetto.

I also love love love the skit that's a luncheon meeting between an "author" and the publisher regarding the pop-up stocking stuffer book on celebrity toilets. "And I MUST insist on 8 capital letters -- no less!"

I should be so lucky, cleaning out the dunny

Early Kylie, or the singing budgie as she was known, also had a big hit with a cover of Locomotion. I still remember being shamed in the playground for not knowing either the words OR the moves to the song.

More music trivia - Kylie came to stardom, in Australia at least, as a curly-haired mechanic on the soap opera, Neighbours. Natalie Imbruglia, straight-haired wailer, also found initial popularity on neighbours before moving on to singing fame. The Pet Shop Boys became famous all on their own, but were sufficiently groovy to appear as special guests on the show. Compulsory viewing, I tell you.
