I'm getting ready to call Damon and pull a Miss Cleo. I'm extremely close to making another large purchase which could conceivably be very stupid (by racking up more debt), but for the most part is not without merit.

[And besides, I could then sell my current turntables to some lucky livejournaler who's looking for a nice cheap way to play their beloved vinyl. It plugs into the AUX outlet of any home stereo! I might even deliver it depending on where you live!]

So anyway, um, yeah. Early xmas gift to myself? I suppose so. Am I just postponing and pushing back the possibility of getting top surgery while still in my 20's? Will I be taking needed steps forward in my DJ/producer career? I think so. Should I wait until I have more concrete options in acquiring more paying gigs?

Here's what I would get:
- Two (2) top of the line cream of the crop turntables. Magical. I can juggle beats! Mix previously incompatible songs! Play records backwards at any speed! I can compute BPM, change the tempo and not the pitch, and much much more.
- Two (2) new cartridges (i.e. needles) which will compliment my tables in their technology and not burn my records
- Two (2) road cases to protect my precious precious turntables and enable them to travel to gigs which would hopefully pay me.

In exchange, I would have approximately $1200 more debt. At this time I will not divulge what my current debt, or my current salary and rent, but if for some reason your a budget and money wizard who would like to know such things and aid me in my decision, leave a comment and maybe I'll e-mail you. Or feel free to just chime in.

In the meantime, I'll be consulting the Tarot. I feel compelled to either make the purchase TODAY or in a few months. And I think I'm leaning towards the former.

One last thing, if I buy these decks, from now on when someone asks what I do, I will first say I'm a DJ.

With decisions as such my answer is always:

Will the purchase of _____(insert object) make a profit that will equal or surpass original investment within one year? If yes, I purchase away. If no, I consider it a bit longer.

my tables are crap crap crap crap crap, and i'm not being humble. they would be GREAT for people just looking to play records, but not for actually spinning and mixing and isht -- they're belt-drive, not direct-drive.

which doesn't mean i wouldn't sell them to you, but I'd probably only charge $50 for the pair and wouldn't want to mislead anyone.

Sooo....can I ask how you like doing promotion for Astralwerks? I was thinking about dipping into that, but would love to get a firsthand account from someone.

It's cool...I like it alot. I think they are a bit unorganized at times. My boss has change 2 times in the last 6 months. My current boss didn't call when she said she would or send the stuff she said she would. The amount of stuff you get varies from month to month. This month was extremely light. On to the good stuff I get free cds, vinyl, posters, and other misc stuff when they send something I like and I get to go to free shows when they are in town. It's also really easy. You go on your time and all you have to do is write a monthly report. If you want to do it I can give you an email address where you can send your resume and cover letter.

that would be cool if you could pass along the e-mail address. you can e-mail it to "raybear@livejournal.com" if you don't want to post it on my journal.

do you actually get paid or do they pay you in merchandise and such? i'm not opposed to putting in a little work for some free isht, but i just want to know what to expect.

oh, and bad news -- i'm not replacing my tables. yet. it may happen in the next few months though. also, if you start thinking more seriously about buying a pair, let me know and i can share my wealth of knowledge. or something.

I will email you that address...you don't get paid but you obvisiously get to take what you like that comes to your place. If you have to pay for parking for a show or whatever you get reimbursed and you get to go to shows for free. I got to see the chemical brothers for free a $50 ticket for free and you almost always get to bring a friend.

I want to learn how mix use all the equipment. It's one of my goals. Right now I just need something to play my vinyl on. Maybe later play around with mixing and such.
