I'm so sleepy right now. Went to bed pretty late last night. Melanie's friend Zu___ was in town and they had gone out. He was over when I showed up after the bookstore. We hung out for awhile, I gave him a tarot reading, then we drove him down to Hyde Park. We didn't get back to the apartment until about 11:30 or so, and then we didn't even go to sleep right away. We were, uh, busy. Ha. I didn't even want to look at the clock because I knew it was probably really late. So anyway, I was doing fine all day, and even being really productive at work but about 15 minutes ago I was hit with a wave of exhaustion and now a headache. Argh.

I gave Melanie a copy of Susie Bright's latest book, and she seemed really interested. I think I'm going to read it when she's done -- I've only read excerpts of it.

Also, my libido finally calmed the fck down. My overall energy is sort of down too, but I think it's just because it's the end of the week.

I'm so happy it's Friday.

oh the TASTE!!

Marcie, you're one hot mama. I love a grrl with great music taste. A Pharcyde fan too, huh? What are you doing after this post? I have a great record collection I could show you.....

I just picked up "Cydeways: The Best of Pharcyde" on CD which is good because my old tapes were fading fast. I've been humming 'Passin Me By' a lot lately because there's some video on The Box called 'Stutter' by Joe and he totally bites the part of the song "My dear, my dear, my dear, you do not know me but I know you very well, so let me tell you....."

haha! I definitely noticed that Joe's song is ONLY good bc he sampled Pharcyde. But it's not as if everyone else hasn't already anyway!!

I'm definitely in the DC area if you want to hang out - but for some reason I thought you were far away?

I should warn you, though, that I'm not nearly as big a music freak as I might appear to be. I hung out with boys in HS who did a lot for my musical taste... but I'm still much more of a reader than a listener.

Anyway. Loved your post about "ghetto" today - its one of the many phrases (like "retarded") that I hear so much I don't even know what to do anymore. But its good to know that I'm not the only one that notices and cares.

My lame attempt to be sleazy.

hey Marcie -- I live in Chicago, which is indeed far from DC. But I was attempting to hit on you via livejournal (that whole "wanna come upstairs and see my stereo?" bit). I guess it worked since you were game for hanging out with me -- ha ha.

It's funny you mentioned the phrase "retarded" -- I almost never say it, but every once in a while it slips out because I had a friend in high school who's cousin had mild Down's Syndrome, and he would sometimes say about himself when he did something clumsy (but human), like dropping his keys: "Man, I'm so retarded!" He had a great sense of irony, and he loved how strangers got uncomfortable when he said it in public. So I sometimes think of him.

In other annoying word use, I've also become sensitive to the word "crazy", because my gf comes from a family of mental illness, specifically her bio mother who has a near laundry list of diagnosed disorders through the years, so I've become more aware of how casual culture deems things weird vs. normal, sane vs. insane, etc. Melanie never confronts folks on the use of "crazy" (she'd have an annoying full-time job if she did!), but she tends to use the word sarcastically or at least in a campy way.
