I just made the best investment in myself and my office -- an air conditioner. I think I might go back and get one for the bedroom. Sure, the electric bills might double and we'll probably go through a burnt-out fuse a week and possibly even blow out the electrical circuit for the entire block. But at least now I can both work and sleep without losing 5 pounds a day of water weight from sweating.

Last summer was the first time in a few years that I survived without an air conditioner in at least one room of the house. I can often do okay with a box fan on high blowing directly at me at all times. But I feel that I've earned this indulgence. I'll make it up to the environment by biking everywhere.

I've already said this to somebody once, but I need to say it again: how much do I NOT want to go up to Evanston right now to make copies? I want to lie around and take a nap, then work on home projecst and make art and t-shirts and read my book and take another nap. Maybe ride my bike to a movie theater and see a matinee, something with lots of special effects and costumes and fluff. I want to be on break, completely and totally. But it's not going to happen, since I have to at least load up the speakers I rented for a gig and return them. And if I'm in the car and driving around, I might as well do some work. It needs to get done before I leave town and I'll be mad at myself next week if I'm cramming it all in the day before leave town.

Maybe I can still squeeze a nap in.
