Aug. 16th, 2001 09:16 amI had nice relaxing night last night -- the only trip I made was to the grocery store after work, then I didn't leave the house again. Lazyness is good. Especially after moving and dealing with car drama for several days. But this morning I woke up again at 6:40 am. What's up with that exact time? I'm starting to get scared. Did something happen at that time? Will something happen at that time?
Last night I started on a mixtape for Bri-guy, and talked to Mistress Milton for awhile (if by some random chance you happen to be reading this because you've been reading Alex's journal, hi Jen!). It was fun talking to her, and we were all over the map on topics, which caused some weird dreams that included driving to pick up Melanie at camp and having to do scary off-road video game type driving. Then getting to the camp and over half the staff was teenage boys. Hmm. The other major part of my dream (which came from a discussion on family with Jen, I think) involved me overhearing a conversation between my parents through a vent that sounded like a therapy session. Hmm. Anyway, I'm going to see Jen's play on Monday, which is cool since I haven't seen any theater in quite some time. She's really cool and has this great energy and vibe -- you know when you interact with someone once, and you're like "i love them and want to be there best friend". Ok, well maybe not quite that extreme. But there's totally an instant sort of connection and trust. Plus, she's a friend of Alex's, so she must be cool.
I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon, which I'm a little nervous about, as usual. Doctors make me nervous, even when I like them. Tonight I'm hanging out with Damon, and we might try and go see the Kings -- I'm concerned it will be sold out though, since we won't be able to get there until the end. And Alex very generously offered to help pay our way....he's such my sugar daddy. So we'll see.
I'm also very happy to learn that this weekend will not be returning to temperatures in the 90s, since I will be attempting to move the remainder of my stuff.
And in other unhappy news, the kitchen in the new place has a new tenant. I call him Ben. Like the movie. Though I guess he's a mouse not a rat. Ugh. I'm not sure what to do -- I don't feel as grossed out by mice as I do bugs, but I don't like anything that moves faster than me, and this mice is fast as a mofo. Any tips on humane ways to get rid of it? Or at least less painful without much clean-up ways?

Date: 2001-08-16 10:33 am (UTC)These are little boxes that shut when the mouse is inside.
The one I have is super cool -- it has a plastic door on the other end (the end the mouse doesn't run into) that slides out, and a place for a cracker right behind it, so to let the mouse go in a field you put a cracker in, then slide the door out and the mouse has to chew through the cracker to get out, so you don't risk your fingers and the mouse gets a chance to get acclimated.
It cost me around $20, but that was here in CA and anyway, it's infinetly reusable.
Next best option is the usual spring traps, which kill, but usually do so quickly.
Poison and the sticky traps are just bad.

thanks
Date: 2001-08-16 11:29 am (UTC)I wanted to avoid poison anyway, because it seems to painful, plus, you have this poor dead mouse floating around your kitchen but you don't know where. at least if i end up killing it, i can say a prayer and give it a proper burial. perhaps I shall name my mouse Antigone instead of Ben....
mouses :)
Date: 2001-08-16 12:29 pm (UTC)the humane traps are good tho. my pal and i had pet rats (very different- domesticated and all) and they used to get harassed by the wilder version so we used the humane traps to at least keep our rats safe from harassment and disease.
