vfc's house for some hanging out and lazy crafting (i.e. mostly brainstorming and prepping) and she turned me onto the stuff because believe it or not, I have never used it. I generally dealt in elmer's glue but was willing to try what the expert decoupagers use. And now I'm converted. I worked on a wooden box mirror that I found a pair of in a thrift store a couple weeks ago. I cut up lots of long skinny rectangles of text from The New Yorker (mostly a short story by Haruki Murakami, a review of Ghostface's album, and a story on Bush's christian fundamentalism and how it informs his 'policy-making') and then I covered up all the wood of the box. While it was drying, I wasn't so sure how it would turn out, but then it was like a miracle happened and its beautiful and I'm not sure what I will do next with it. Also, this morning, I made bath salts out of sage and lavender from my yard. Soon I'll be making my own shoes.
Secondly, I got fully converted to Project Runway. Yes, I'd never really watched a full episode prior to last week. And so I watched the second episode of the new season with Liza yesterday, and then she loaned me the DVD of the first season and I've watched five episodes between last night and today, and I probably would have watched them all by now if I didn't feel compelled to do at least a few productive tasks. Plus,dommeyourass is hooked now too and she's at class, so I should wait until she gets home to resume the marathon. I know who the winners are for both seasons, and I even remember most of the finalists too, but it's still great to watch, it makes no difference to my overall enjoyment of the show. Hell, I even find myself picking my favorites and nemeses, because I don't know WHEN they'll be eliminated.
I just found out that one of my potential teaching gigs will probably not come through for the fall (though possibly the spring), which is a bummer, because its the one that most excited me, but not necessarily a huge stress, since it was a smaller one. The big one, which would pay most the bills, hasn't officially come through, but hey, last time I didn't sign my contract until the first orientation meeting, so that doesn't necessarily mean anything.
Right now, all I care about is not feeling completely lethargic and debilitated by the heat. I can barely read or write, I only want to watch tv and nap. It feels ridiculous to be so incapacitated by it. My sheets are so gross though, I must overcome inertia. I did walk to the Currency Exchange to get quarters, so the battle is half won.

Date: 2006-07-26 02:29 am (UTC)i am in love with that wonderful stuff. here's another fun project: make your own customized light switch plate. just find a photo out of a magazine, cut to size using an x-acto knife, and use mod podge to glue the picture to the blank plate. then fold over the edges, and coat with several layers of magical mod podge and voila! i did one for every switch plate in my house.
