Everybody's got their life to live

Last night's theme was Songs I've Never Sung Before

1. It Don't Matter to Me -- Bread
2. Common People -- Pulp
3. With You I'm Born Again -- Billy Preston and Syreeta [duet with [livejournal.com profile] vfc]
4. A Little More Love -- Olivia Newton John
5. The Difficult Kind -- Sheryl Crow [duet with [livejournal.com profile] iamthesphinx]
6. Touch Me In the Morning -- Diana Ross
7. After All -- Cher and Peter Cetera [duet with [livejournal.com profile] vfc]

I also jumped on stage and helped a stranger sing Toto's Africa as well as crashing [livejournal.com profile] iamthesphinx's version of Kelly Clarkson's Walk Away.

The Diana Ross one was a little rough because it was in some weird key I couldn't follow and its not like its an easy song in general. I should have just ignored the backing track and sang the version in my head -- that's actually what I do with "Since U Been Gone". But singing that Olivia Newton John song was a dream come true. Ronnie the KJ was chatting with us occasionally and came up and said, hey, I have my personal collection here so if there's something you don't see, ask. And I immediately asked about ONJ. And he had it. And now I want to sing it every time I'm there.

I am sad I missed it. I was thinking of you, but friend is leaving town and I had to suck up all the time with her I can.

Common People! That sounds like fun.

I have a lot of trouble with Elton John for the reason you mentioned about Ms. Ross.

How did "With you I'm born again" go? I've wanted to sing that (Billy Preston's part) before.

after all

Too bad there's no karaoke bar like 7Bamboo, where you can perform live on internet streaming video, the way [livejournal.com profile] apriljoy does did!

You could bring a vidcam to the proceedings and treat us all to a snippet!

And now, because you need to see it: Kelly Clarkson Drunk At A Rock Show.

Oh...I love that song "A Little More Love" Rock on you that you got to sing it...

Have you gotten Olivia Newton-John's Video Gold DVDs (part 1 and 2) yet? You should if you haven't!

"Common People" is a powerful choice not only because it's a karaoke classic (in my brain, meaning I've sung it before) but also because Jarvis Cocker kind of loses it in the end of the song, which is perfect for you, because I feel like you really like to sing songs where It All Gets A Little Unhinged.

As an aside, I would like to make a mix of songs where the singer totally loses it. Marvin Gaye's "You" is the thing that is immediately coming to mind.

Do you think that the kj has the Pogues? Because, if yes, I will drag you (or someone) onstage for "Fairytale of New York." If you don't know that song, you'd better get to practicing. I'll lend you the tape. You can even sing the Shane McGowan (sp?) part.
