Also, it's not ridiculous to suggest that reproducing abuse/coloniality/patriarchal narratives in the media helps people to not care about reproducing them in life. Does it mean that watching violent video games means I'll want to shoot people in the head? Maybe not. But, does watching fictional abuse desensitize people to real abuse? Particularly when the real abuse is via the same media (television) as the fictional abuse? How could it not?
