Slept til about 9, then got up and started packing and getting ready to go. Left just after 10 am – St__ drove us, but Beth stayed behind to study. I got to see L.A., if only through a car window and only what was between 101 and LAX (though we accidentally took the long route since we got off the highway too soon. We drove by the official Bad News Bears baseball field, which was pretty funny. I was never this huge fan of the movie, but folks who know me in person might recognize that I saw that phrase a lot – instead of saying "that's bad" or "that's bad news", I say "that's bad news bears". Something weird I just created by accident and kept it up. Anyway, got to LAX, waited to board our flight on the sketchy airlines, Spirit, which issues "tickets" that are basically paper receipts from a cash register. Wha? We got on board, settled, everyone was on, then they announced the air traffic control has grounded them for almost 2 hours, so everyone had to de-board. We ended up buying snacks and writing half-dozen postcards, since I spotted a mailbox near the bathrooms. Then we finally got back on the plane and survived the flight to Chicago. We landed around 9:30 (more than 90 minutes late), they took forever to deliver our baggage to the claim area, then we realized we had landed in the international terminal so we had to take a tram to the main terminal to catch the train. It was quite an ordeal, and we walked into the house at almost exactly midnight. And they didn't hold our mail correctly, so we had tons of isht stuffed in the mailbox that we sorted through. Then we went to bed and I think we were both a bit wired, and didn't really fall asleep until 1:30 am.

And that was what I did on my summer vacation.
