[livejournal.com profile] penpusher made a post about recording television theme songs as a kid by holding your cassette player up to the TV. I did one of these tapes too, and I'm pretty sure the first song was this, which I've had in my head for the past hour now:

[livejournal.com profile] broqued, I think after our DC road trip, the next project will be a shot for shot remake of this, starring us and our friends.

Agreed. They used to be really long too. Nowadays opening credits last 15 seconds max.

For the record, I was a fan of Cagney & Lacey as well and I know their iconic and great theme song wound up on one of my tapes... I think there were at least 4 volumes of 90 minute tapes of this stuff!

It was amusing to see Carl Lumbly on last night's episode of "Chuck," along with Bruce Boxleitner... who really should have been teamed with Kate Jackson for a "Scarecrow & Mrs. King" reunion.

Someone decided to toss the time to advertisers... the time saved from longer themes means more commercials.

Advertising sucks.

i loved the theme song to taxi soooo much as a kid. i ended up getting the cd that it was on later in life. also, this reminded me of when i was in college, my roommates and i had a 2 disc tv theme show song cd that we would play at parties mixed in. i wonder where that is now? but anyway, you realize there were some really good ones. like, sanford & son was really good. also, i have a funny story about that tv show but i'll save that for another post. oops, i meant comment. sorry, i ended up doing a mini-post disguised as a comment in your post.

did you know Sharon Gless was in town for two weeks shooting a film about a lesbian love story? She was one of the lovers.

i did not know that, however i am not remotely surprised by this fact.

when i visited the television archives in hollywood, where you can access a vast archive of rare footage from film history, i chose to watch the pilot episode of "The Trials of Rosie O'Neill".

Carl Lumbly!

I saw him in later shows like Mantis and, of course, Alias, but I couldn't remember where I knew him from.

It's also funny how well I remembered the theme song.
