raybearDamon called me from the tarot convention and mentioned that he just walked by Rachel Pollack, but hadn't gotten a chance to introduce himself yet. I told him I should have sent my well-worn Haindl book with him to get her autograph. Then I said, no, why don't you just tell her that we use books all the time and think she absolutely rocks? That would mean more to me than some signature.
I can get "starstruck" about such random people. I met Margaret Cho briefly, and she seemed cool and all, but she didn't make me nervous like Amber Hollibaugh did. Who? Exactly. Well,![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
wearemany knows who she is, but she's met all the cool New York magazine writer folks, so she doesn't count (only kidding, love!). I guess in most cases, like in the Amber example, I'm not truly starstruck as I'm genuinely interested in the work they've produced and want to talk to them about it, rather than the sensation of intially seeing a "celebrity" in person which creates that strange brain firing of neurons, that signal that says "familiar person in front of you" and makes me start to smile and say "hey, how's it going" but then I realize that's Julianne Moore talking to a friend on the streets of the Village, not some woman I met at a party last week. But it's the same sort of adrenal rush of familiarity for both. Funny how brains work. Well, my own brain -- that's all I can truly vouch for.
In other news, tonight we may finally go see Panic Room, and I just received a phone call confirming equipment rental for my gig next weekend. Unfortunately I'll have to pick it up, so I might need to a make a reservation withlimenal's car rental service. I hope I can get a discount. So all's well that end's well on this sunny friday afternoon, and special thanks to those nice folks who've left me some nice comments recently and helped the day be brighter.
