This thing here, every (hu)man in the world goes through

Last night I had takeout pizza with Madness Librarian Friend (by the way, his name comes from the music group Madness), and then we watched Coyote Ugly. "Now tell me how I can help you, please, because I am dying to make YOUR dreams come true." Uh, yeah. I mean, it was pretty bad, though parts of it were good bad. The bar-owner was sorta hot and SO dykey, but what the hell was that bar doing in the middle of New York City? I thought based on the premise it would be some roadhouse place. Or at least an L.A. bar. About 5 times during the movie I busted out with "the following scene was filmed before the tragic events that occurred in NYC", mostly because there were so many silly caricatures about the whole "new girl in the city". For some reason, I even predicted she would hide her money in the freezer.

And what was up with the random cameos? Ellen Cleghorne, Alex Borstein, Alanis Morissette, Bud Cort (aka Harold from Harold and Maude), John Fugelsang (ex-VH1 VJ) and LeAnn Rimes? That final scene with Leann was such her pre-Britney "I'm not a girl not yet a woman" statement. I can't believe I just said that. I have too much pop culture in my brain apparantly.

Jerry Bruckheimer. Now there's a man who should be forced into early retirement.

I'm starving right now, but I'll wait for Sparky to come over and we can have a picnic lunch in our office conference room.

you are possibly only the second person i've ever known to actually know who bud cort is. sure, half the world has seen harold and maude, but no one i know ever remembers who he is.

i mean, when i saw him in coyote ugly i thought it was random

but then, when he showed up in but i'm a cheerleader
i nearly fell over laughing.

I had some help identifying him from my friend, who's the king of naming every actor and what they've done. I'm sure if I watched it alone (who would watch that movie alone?) I probably would have recognized him and thought about it the whole time, but maybe would need to cheat with the Internet Movie Database.

I forgot about But I'm a Cheerleader! maybe I need to see it again.

Huh? I think more people know than you might think. He was god in Dogma and a priest in The Chocolate War (among others) too.

hmm. maybe it's just my lameo friends.

though i've never seen dogma or the chocolate war

I thought Alanis Morrissette was God in Dogma.

I think Bob Cort played the Jersey boardwalk guy who got hospitalized -- the OTHER God.

Yeah, he did. Um, and it's Bud now Bob, but I think you knew that and it was a typo.

[identity profile] vfc.livejournal.com 2002-05-14 11:51 am (UTC)(link)
Ha. And it's not not now, which was MY typo.

We need to petition Livejournal to let us edit comments the way we edit posts. Bastards are persecuting the perfectionists in the world!

Coyote Ugly is the worst movie ever (well, it's at least tied with Center Stage and Duets, both of which I've seen more than once--goddamned cable). Don't you love when a movie's previews are completely opposite in tone than the actual movie. At the very least, I thought it would be a raunch-fest. Nope. Instead it was about a super-sweet gal who makes a go of it in the big city... and succeeds!!! But, I will admit, it's almost at so-bad-it's-good status.

I'm pretty sure she was one of the receptionists who rejected whats-her-name.
