"Ark-building" isn't the right word, but it's the first word that comes to mind.
My pants are completely soaked through, and I'm in my bare feet since my boots and socks are completely saturated. And we just got a call from the landlord saying the southwest loop generator is flooded, so the power may go out at some point. In which case we will evacuate out the stairs and I get to go home. Yay. Though I don't particularly want to go back out in the rain, it would be nice to go back under the covers and watch movies on a gray day like this.
Got an e-mail from El___, which was sweet and I don't feel as self-conscious about how things ended. At this point I think I'm just going to focus on being friends, and then if she comes back from her vacation with some revelation that she wants to fcuk me, we'll just take it from there. But if that never happens, I'm still going to want to talk to her, maybe even hang out, and not have it be weird when we run into each other (which is inevitable in the chicago queer community). Unfortunately, I can't write her back, since my e-mail seems to be sunk. I receive messages ok, but nothing seems to be going out. Hrrrmph.
So I'm planning on getting involved with About Face Theater this fall, which I'm very excited about. I just heard back from someone who's an incoming artistic director (I think that's her title?), and we have a couple different connections from school and friends, and she will hopefully hook me up with some good opportunities. The youth group doesn't start up until January, but I'm interested in the regular company as well. I'm excited to go back into theater again -- it's been about 5 years. The summer on 1996 when I played guitar in the pit of Joseph and the Amazing Techinicolor whatever. But I really loved stage managing Hello Dolly in '95.
The new issue of the day: consciously realizing that this summer is NOT a break from routine that will re-established next month. It's a transition into an entirely new routine. This is important for someone like me who simultaneously enjoys change but also clings to inertia and experiences intense nostalgia.
In other news, why has the world forgotten that Usher is gay?
