It is nearly impossible to find newspaper articles from 1977 from Floriday newspapers in Chicago. Don't even try and offer suggestions. I've done them all. Lexis, westlaw, every university library, the public library, google, newslibrary.com, newspaper source, the Miami Herald offices themselves (they only go back to 1982, and she suggested a public library). Yet, no one believes that I either need these articles or that they're difficult to access.

The librarian at the periodicals desk seemed confused by my request. She looked in a binder. She said, "no, I don't think so, but let me show you what we do have." Then she walked me over to a stack of Miam Herald's from the past two weeks. That doesn't help me! So she pointed me to the computer search (which I'd already done, but thought I'd try again), and the library cop yelled at me saying I needed to go somewhere else to use the internet. He didn't believe I was using the computer for it's intended purpose, even though I made him come look at my screen. I know I look 18, but please don't accuse me of loitering. You better come correct.

And my boss doesn't seem to believe that I'm having problems finding these articles or that they are hard to acquire. I mean, I'm fairly astonished myself that it's so difficult, but I feel all my hours of work are seen as trifling. So now I'm feeling all unproductive and unsuccessful and luckily I'm leaving the office in 30 minutes, but I shall leave feeling unsatisfied.

The most helpful woman was at University of Chicago and supposedly the Center for Research Libraries has what I need. But I must be a student or somehow affiliated with another library to access it. I know what a certain University of Chicago law student who shall be roped in to my search next week. My other plan involves someone from the Atlanta regional office, who may have better luck since he's closer to Miami.

In other news, we ate tapas last night. And I will spend my afternoon walking the magnificent mile with the aunt and mother. And I'm ready for a weekend. And apparantly in my sleep last night when MelRo's arm touched me, I blurted out "Jesus christ what the fuck are you doing?" I guess I'm a bit touchy while sleeping at times.

Off to meet them for lunch.
