It's hot. Hot hot heat and not in the indie hipster band way. This week I've bought not one, but two window unit air-conditioners, one for the office (so I have no excuse for not writing/working this summer) and one for the bedroom (so I have no excuse for not sleeping/having sex this summer). But I bought the smallest ones because I'm cheap/broke but also because both are small rooms, square-footage-wise. Which means it takes a long time for them to cool the room down and it never quite gets fully cold. This is probably better for the environment and the utility bills and my health, but not for my curent petulant sweaty self.

Also, I seem to be fond of slashes.

The past few days deserve to be written about more, but here's a short playback. On Thursday night I saw a collection of dance performances I really loved, then had a conversation on the steps outside with Br about Henry Miller, then we went home.....and picked up a half-stranger over the internet and drove out to Arlington Heights at midnight to kidnap him from his hotel and bring him back to the house for play. Despite our "swinging from the chandeliers" reputation, it's the first time we've done anything exactly like that and it was lots of fun. And hot. Not in the hot hot heat way. Yesterday was a lovely garden party in honor of [livejournal.com profile] keetbabe's graduating, where I drank cold beer and laid on the grass and had good conversations with folks, including someone I seem to only see every few months at a party, who I think other people on LJ call "Texan" but I will call "My Future Husband" and by future I mean 50 years down the line. But it could happen. I also spent a lovely time talking with The Lovely and Talented [livejournal.com profile] cocololaTM who would be my first choice to star in the television show "Wife Swap" with me, except it wouldn't make for good Fox television since we wouldn't cry and fight about religion or class or childrearing and we'd spend the whole time leaving room for Jesus between us. Which reminds me that last night I went to bed early but got woken up in the middle of the night and there was defintely no room being left for Jesus then (see above re: reasons for buying air conditioner for bedroom).

Today I spent nearly all afternoon with Miss Rook, enjoying happy hour sushi and bookstores and thriftstores, then spent the remaining afternoon/evening talking on the phone with [livejournal.com profile] thebrownhornet, then took care of dog-walking duties for a friend and now I'm going to make a cold lemonade beverage and recline in front of one of the aforementioned air conditioning units in my fancy new underwear I bought at Target to celebrate receiving my tax refund.
