Wake up.

A couple weeks ago I sent an e-mail to my senator asking about the confirmation of Karen Hughes and his lack of attendance at that hearing. Turns out he was travelling abroad and meeting with people to discuss the genocide in Darfur. Oh. Okay. Couldn't really blame him after that. It stuck in the back of my head though, this vague concept of Darfur.

And it finally sunk in. See, when I saw the movie Hotel Rwanda, I was completely overwhelmed and moved and upset and thought what the fck was I doing while this was going on? Oh yeah, selling books in a bookstore, with only vague ideas of what was going on outside my own little world. I don't really want to wait for another Don Cheadle movie to be made before I start to maybe do one tiny thing. Write a letter. Something. Trust me, people, it can help. I know it seems like this tiny drop in a massive bucket, but you'd be surprised how everyone else thinks that and no one does anything and everyone acts as if no one is watching because no one is. It can add up.

Be A Witness.org has a page that will give you a very brief run down of what's going (I promise it's easy to read!) and why television coverage can be helpful and how to send a message and other ways to take action. It's no more work than MoveOn.org.

So ends today's Political Public Service Announcement.
