If I could stand to be less difficult
Nov. 15th, 2005 11:59 amLast night on the drive home from film group I was flipping through the radio stations and stopped on a song that sounded vaguely familiar. Then I listened and thought, wow, someone did a boring cover of Seal's Crazy and they are trying to sound like Alanis Morrissette in the process. Ooops. Guess it really was Alanis.
It's grey and cold and off and on rainy, again, another day, I really want to blame this weather for everything, including but not limited to, feeling lethargic, morose, unproductive, anxious, sad, apathetic, itchy. This last one isn't the weather, I know, it's that I need to change the sheets on the bed.
I had a gift certificate to the Paper Source, a fancy stationary/paper store in Lincoln Park, and normally I love these places because I'm addicted to blank books and interesting cards that someday I will send when I take up writing letters more than once every 3 months, but this store just didn't grab and it took me a long time to find anything I wanted the first time I went. I didn't even use the whole amount, so yesterday I went back with a purpose, to get a 2006 moleskine calender. I knew they carried them, I love them but hate buying them at full price, so it was perfect. I also picked up this pad of paper to create fancy to-do lists. But instead of saying "to-do", it says "ACCOMPLISH" and underneath there are six areas to write in six categories: Today, Tomorrow, Weekend, Near Future, Someday, Maybe Never. I needed something like this, because I think I either think too much the big picture (and don't do anything right now to take a step forward) or I think too much in the moment and don't take a step back for the big picture.
I can put "buy lottery ticket" under the section for today, but put "win lottery" under Maybe Never which is not entirely pessimistic. It qualifies it with a maybe.
I'm going to the doctor today for the first time in a year and a half. I'm nervous because I'm out of the habit.
