Today I received Rejection Number Three. I just looked at my little spreadsheet of fiction submissions, and damn, it's been fast. Less than a month. Either I chose a good, slow time of year to submit. Or it was so plainly obvious they didn't want it, turnover was quick. Let's go with the former.
Two more to go. Someday my quasi-pornographic literary story will make it in this big bad world.
I went to see Pericles today at the Goodman and anything Mary Zimmerman stages I will love, from the blocking of the actors on stage, to the transitions between scenes, to the use of long pieces of silk, to the anachronistic settings and costumes. But I thought it was going to be a tragedy. It wasn't. It had a sappy happy ending and the woman next to me was crying, while I was dozing off. I did cry in the first act though.
I'm tired and kinda bummed out and I just spent a lot of money at the store. Maybe I'll have a smoke and then eat chips and salsa while waiting for my friend to ring the doorbell.
