I'd like to welcome back to the Raybear show....my bike! And my fruity sneakers. I took both out into the world yesterday and I thought I would be car-shy after a 5 month break from riding, but not yet. However, my ass is killing me today. I forget about the adjustment period required in the first few days to build up those muscles or callouses or whatever.

Today I'm wearing a simple black t-shirt and the jeans I wear 329874 times a week, but I feel like the sexiest mtherfcker in the room. I mean, currently I am alone in the office, so it's easy, but I was feeling this earlier on the bus, on the train, while wandering around Navy Pier with a friend. Ah, spring, you do wonders for the self-confidence.

I'm 2/3 done with my application to the Indiana Writers' Conference. Really the only reason you should click there is if you want to see a picture of one of my fabulous mentors who's presenting there. (Hint: She has the same last name as me, though sadly we are not related.) I'm a little hesitant to plunk down the $50 nonrefundable application fee because I can only afford to go if I also get a scholarship, which I won't find out for a couple weeks. But it's an investment, right? Just money, just some numbers. That's also what I'm telling myself about the $526 I owe the United States government I discovered when I finally did my taxes this morning. Hi, depressing.

Other things on my writer checklist: finish writing my novel chapter and send to my mentor by tomorrow, re-read and write up feedback to the essay my mentee sent me by Sunday, read and write up feedback for writing group by next week. I'm loving my writing group, even if it kinda kicks my ass. Or maybe because it's kicking my ass.

I might get a DJ gig for June that would help pay rent. Other than that, I have not made much progress this week on the job front.....have I mentioned loving my bike yet? Ok, yeah, avoidance. I see it, I'm dealing with it. Priorities though, and in this moment it means writing, tonight and tomorrow morning.

I have so many interesting things in my head when I'm moving around in the world that I want to journal about but then I sit down and give these status reports or random isht that pops in my head. Things like....I don't know, how much I love my egg salad, because I use more mustard than mayo and I add a dash of both curry powder and nutritional yeast.
