Me, I guess I was a shoulder to cry on.
Dec. 19th, 2007 04:22 pmI woke up this morning and felt like I'd been sleeping in the desert with my mouth open all night. A sign of two things -- a cold and a need to pull the humidifier out. I went to do the latter and couldn't find it. Then I remembered, there was a scary black mold growing in it last spring and I think I tried to bleach it and we might have been watching episodes of House at the time when someone almost died because of mold in the house, so it got tossed. Damnit. I spent my day drinking lots of liquids with vitamin C and neti potting three or four times and gargling the saltwater too plus two naps. Oh, and the chicken pot pie for lunch, though really that could have happened any day. I think all of that helped. Mostly I just feel that sort of malaise, in the technical sense of slightly offkilter and aware of a foreign object in my body. I do not want to get sick right before a road trip, but then again, I suppose its par for the course to get ill around the holidays.
Despite fighting off a virus, I still managed to outrun a teenager to catch a train today. That felt pretty fantastic. Especially since he was also lanky and 6 inches taller than me. We were heading down the stairs at the same time, he was about 10 feet ahead of me, we both heard the train and started jogging. He slowed down and I passed him. Then he sprinted past me, and I just started laughing outloud, that I induced him to keep up. Except he couldn't maintain his sprint, he started slowing down and I passed him again. When I sat down on the train, he got on after me and was looking for me. I could tell he was winded and I wasn't so much. My internal voice was all "take that, young buck!" and then I was like, whoa, who's that guy inside me? I'm like the older guy on the basketball court, challenging kids to a game of one-on-one. Or a PE coach.
