My day flew by and I don't even have a plane. I had lunch with Damon's Little Red Headed Girl, who's aptly named for multple reasons, though she's not necessarily little and isn't a girl. I cleaned off my desk so it's actually usable and looks extremely tidy which will make it somewhat less unfortunate when I finally do return to the office.

I'm nervous about the trip. I'm concerned I'm either planning too many activities/visits or not enough of them. I'm a little worried that I'm spending a lot of time with people I've never actually met before -- I mean, I'm wicked excited to meet everyone and hang out (and possibly more, depending on the person), but I can get freaked out sometimes if I'm over-stimulated, socially speaking of course. But I think I'll be fine, since I have plane rides and bus rides and other times when I'm wandering cities alone, which will put me in a better place. I told my co-worker yesterday that I'm glad I'm going to NYC first so I can decompress. She seemed astounded that I find the city 'relaxing', but it's true. I love it and assumed for awhile I'd end up there, but nowadays I seem to be pulled out west for reasons that don't seem to quite originate in me yet I'm not opposed to either. It's unclear. But I can talk about that another time.

I rather enjoy packing a suitcase, because I get to construct multiple fantasy outcomes and scenarios and outfits and I like planning for "emergencies" even if it only means throwing in random packets of moist towelettes or mint-flavored condoms or an extra pair of socks. I decided to actually check a bag, since I'm in no rush (it's vacation after all) and it's less for me to worry about during the actual flight. Plus, I can store the possible incriminating items in the checked baggage and not worry about an embarassing search at the security checkpoint.

I haven't traveled alone in a really long time. Probably the last time was flying out to Vermont last summer to visit MelRo which was a bit nerve-wracking for other reasons, yet I also recall enjoying some of the long waits in various terminals. I got a lot of reading done. For this trip I'm packing several magazines I'm behind on, and perhaps one book. Sometimes magazines agitate me more because there's too much information and too much jumping around -- I need the stability of the world that a novel presents, so I can always submerge myself into something familiar even if my surroundings are tumultuous.

Next time you see me, I won't be here.

i know how you feel. i'm very nervous but excited. i'm afraid i won't be cute enough or cool enough. [btw i was SWOONING on the phone when i was talking to you] or enough. i worry that my "Hype" will be so beyond reality and i dont' know, i'll just suck. i'm really nice in real life. really LOUD and really sexy. oops there goes that hype again.

i've had a lot of AWFUL internet meetings. some so horrible i think i'm still scarred. but i've also had some amazing ones. i suspect meeting you and being trapped in the car with you for 14 hours will prove to be the later and not the former. you can drive stick right?

oh yeah, i can drive stick. the question is, can YOU drive my stick? (okay, that was probably too much.)

i hope that my "hype" doesn't ruin me for you either. sorry i was so quick on the phone, but my cell phone is crappy and often don't like talking in public, especially on the train. but i shall ring you again when i'm closer to your city.
