You know, Elvis was a hero to most, but he never meant isht to me.

Damn, I'm exhausted. I thought a Monday night concert at the House of Blues would have to close up shop by midnight, but I realized this morning that the 'lights off' policy at the last concert was probably due to the all-ages nature of the show and Chicago curfew laws. This show was 18 & over, which means they really didn't cut anything short. Besides, who's going to tell Chuck D to wrap it up and threaten to unplug the sound?

So I saw Public Enemy in concert. Sans Teminator X and Flavor Flav, but hey. Not bad at all. You can't be mad at a 15 minute jamming version of "Fight the Power" featuring live instrumentation. Blackalicious was rocking, as were Dilated Peoples, and I'm so glad I saw Scratch so I could be even more awed by Babu. ALL the scratching was live. Loved it.

What I do not love is getting home at 2 am and only having a restless abbreviated night of sleep. This morning I dream I was reading about DJ Shadow working on a Mariah Carey remix and my jaw was dropping at how bizarre and unexpected that combination was. Then I became DJ Shadow and MelRo was Mariah Carey. Well, in real life she was herself and being herself, but I was still asleep so the way she was touching me made my brain translate her into Mariah. And I realized that Shadow must be doing a remix for her because they're dating, which didn't, you know like, explain anything.

Now I'm in the office and I can't distinguish between thinking about something and doing it.

I'm listening to Bjork this morning. For some reason, this makes sense.

I saw P.E. a coupla' years ago with Black Eyed Peas and ran into the same thing with the curfew laws, which kind of sucked. It was raining when the show was supposed to start so it started late and BEP's did their full set - so PE only had a little less that an hour to tear it up. They still put on a good show, but I don't think they ever actually did a full song - the whole show was just one long medley.

What was funny is that @11 oe 12 or whenever they had to leave, Flavor refused and stayed on stage. He tried to find a beat to rap to, but was hopelessly lost until X came back on to set the turntable up for him.
