One more brief entry before doing Help Desk.

According to the new report and the BMI index, I'm obese. How completely and utterly ridiculous. Even my anti-fat annoying doctor wouldn't say I'm 'obese'. I guess I should be glad or something that I"m not "very obese"? Whatever.

Unfortunately the BMI is not very good for very muscular or dense bodied people. If you are really worried about your body fat get a set of calipers and have a trained person (Physical Therapy student, PE student, etc.) to measure your body fat or in the alternative if there is a local university around you; I bet the PE students do water displacement tests to measure body fat and are looking for willing victims to practice on. But if you look and feel good and your doc says so too, forget about it. Cheers, Nemo

Thanks for the tips, though to be real I'm not that interested in my fat count. I'm more frustrated by health alarmists who aren't really doing anyone any favors by blowing things out of proportion. We have culture obsessed with being skinny but who also eats extremely unhealthily -- both seem to be symptoms of low self-esteem and bad body image. I'm mad that articles tell I'm obese -- is this supposed to scare me into eating better? Or make me feel hopeless so I'll continue dining at Taco Bell? Argh. So frustrating.
