Hey, hey Johnny, can't you come out to play?
Today I'm listening to an old old mixtape. It has a Sarah McLaughlin song on it. I almost forgot that I used to like her. Something happened and she did some celebrity grievance that caused me to revile and despise her, though I don't even remember what it is. Possibly her annoying ubitquity, a stupid comment about Lilith Fair, and/or her inability to sing live and by herself -- she goes flat and her backup singer does all the work. She needs an album.
Of course it's always too late to fix it -- now my skin crawls for the most part when I think of her. I used to feel bad for over-hating celebrities or artists, but whatever. I'm sure they couldn't care less about my personal opinion, and as far as missing out on their contributions to the world, there are plenty of others out there to satisfy the role.
Last night I finally completed my first CD mix after struggling with my CD-Recorder and learning how to use it. At first I thought it was my bullishness at fault for not reading the directions fully, but then I read them and things still fcked up. Why are electronic equipment instructions dense and boring yet often lacking significant information and practical applciations? Anyway, the mix is called Midnight in a Perfect World 2: The Gift and the Curse. Oh my, I crack myself up.
I'm not sure I've mentioned this enough in my journal, but I have a huge crush on my new coworker. Oh, let's call him Roberto. He's fantabulous. And not just because he's cute (which he is), but also because he's bright and funny and sweet. Work is fun again. Sort of.

BTW,
Date: 2002-10-22 09:24 am (UTC)obviously i was wrong.
I saw Sarah M. a quite a few years agao with The Cheiftans and was extremely underwhelmed. I really dug her albuim at the time (i still like possession) but she was horribly off-note and just downright dull. Glad to know I'm not the only one who thought so (since i def. was the only one of my friends that thought so that night)
Re: BTW,

I mean, I'm not exactly Mr. Perfect Pitch, and sometimes I like singers who sing flat and in minor keys (like Mark Eitzel), but that's more intentional. When I worked at the Feminist Bookstore at the time her live album came out, my co-workers played it ALL the time and it drove me absolutely insane at how offkey all the tracks were. I couldn't believe these were the best versions that made it onto the final product. Plus she dragged the tempo of each song compared to the original. I mean, live version are often sluggish compared to studio, but this was ridiculous.
I still have a quasi-soft spot in my heart for many songs off of Fumbling Towards Ecstasy and Possession. But I don't think I've actually pulled her CD off the shelf and listened to it since I made this mixtape 5 years ago!
