Local Baywatch activities

Yesterday I went to court in the afternoon to observe a trial and take brief notes on behalf of one of the attorneys out of town. It's a divorce case involving a transperson -- one of those cases where the non-trans spouse is trying to claim it's a same-sex marriage even though they've been married for twelve years. While I was at the Daley Center, Damon and Liza came by the office. ??? All the exciting things like to happen at once.

Last night I took Nyquil at 8 pm and was asleep around 8:30 -- sleeping straight through until the alarm went off at 7:15 this morning. I have copious amounts of phlegm in my head and throat and I feel achey, but since I took a sick day last week, I'm taking tomorrow off, and I need to be at court again today, I showed up anyway. It's not too bad actually, as long as I'm drinking my alka-seltzer. I learned this trick from a former co-worker at Borders and it really works wonders on a head cold. It helps clear out all the throat coating stuff and also relieves your stomach from nausea if the stuff is dripping down your throat (eww). Plus, it contains aspirin to help with any pain. There's a reason Alka-seltzer started marketing cold medication -- because people were already using it as one. Sort of like that Avon Skin-So-Soft that has like one thousand uses. Do they still make that stuff? Anyway, the point is alka-seltzer is a universal panacea. Even the walgreens brand, which is what I'm drinking now.
Cute CoWorker is sitting by my desk right now. !!!

I find that deep gargling with listerine also helps shorten colds and allergy attacks, especially those attacks that start with a tiny little tickle in the back of my throat before exploding up into my sinuses.

I've managed to forestall most attacks and shorten many more with Listerine.

I'll hate to remember that for the future -- unfortunately I think it's too late now with this cold which has already spread!

Don't forget the "phlegm cup"...

Heh. You said "copious."

Might I suggest drinking hot tea (any kind, but peppermint may help with some congestion as well)......it really breaks-up what might be dripping down the throat and settles the stomach as well.

That, and it's not as expensive or as corporate as Alka Seltzer.

To better health, my friend...better health.

i can usually get a box of twenty doses of the wal-greens brand for 3 bucks. i guess if i was really inudstrious i could use homemade alka-seltzer and mix baking soda and crushed aspirin into my water.

i have okay luck with tea, but sometimes it doesn't seem strong enough -- but it's good to drink between doses. that and emergencee (the packets of mega-vitamin C). tonight i dissolved an emergencee in a glass of cranberry juice -- yumm!

i learned copious from a friend in college. she constantly called a mutual friend "copious-notetaker". i always think of her when i say it.
