Teacher thinks that I sound funny
Jan. 14th, 2003 10:09 amI spent nearly an hour last night filling up my Amazon shopping cart then when I went to check out I was informed that my gift certificate can't be applied to used items (which was 90% of my cart, since I was trying to get the most of my money). Bastards.
So I decided on three things. Buffy Season Three DVD, The Sims for Playstation 2, and the DVD of "My Neighbor Totoro". This is not as exciting as the cart full of 16 items, but I'm getting two big ticket items that are new and exciting and will get much use out of me. I think I chose wisely.
Oh, and I registered for True Spirit last week. I guess I should put in for time off from work. Anyone in DC willing to let me sleep on their couch (or bed if I promise not to hog the covers)? I was leaning towards sharing a hotel room, but I'm not sure I have enough money for such a non-extravagance. I mean, if I'm going to share a room anyway....I'm still deciding, I guess. So to my DC people, expect an email inquiring about availability. Or let me know here if there are still open reservations or if you're already full and don't want further harassment.
This whole Pete Townsend debacle is creeping me out. But in more positive entertainment news, Richard Chamberlain is coming out. Oh, Dr. Kildare.
On the train this morning I noticed that whenever I'm reading or thinking about buddhism, I start viewing everything random around me in those terms. I'll be listening to some song on my walkman and thinking "she should dwell so much on the past and concentrate more on the present." I need a book on the buddhist's approach to art and music and pop culture. What would Buddha think of Joe Millionaire?

Date: 2003-01-14 08:40 am (UTC)I didn't know you were into Buddhist stuff. I just got a book that you might be interested in - it's called "Queer Dharma". I haven't read it yet, but it comes highly recommended and deals with some interesting subject matter, apparently. If you find a book on the buddhist approach to art, music and pop culture please pass that title along and I'll do the same since now I, too, will be looking around for that.

Date: 2003-01-14 08:50 am (UTC)I've mostly been reading more western books on the subject -- I had this big idea to read all these originaly translated texts, but then thought to myself, who am I kidding? So I started with Buddhism Plain and Simple and read it very quickly. Interestingly enough, although I've always had a casual interest in buddhism, it wasn't until a year ago when I got a strong interest in lucid dreaming and dream meditation that I started reading more seriously about the noble truths and whatnot. Now I've been reading a little bit on Zen forms and also searching for an audio cassette that will help on the meditation front.
I've heard of the book Queer Dharma but haven't read it -- I'd be interested to hear what you think of it.
And now I'm off to do a quick internet search on buddhism and art and pop culture!!

Date: 2003-01-14 09:01 am (UTC)Nothing is more pathetic than horribly transparent excuses.
Sorta like Winona saying that shoplifting was "research" for her upcoming movie role.
My question is, why would Townshend need to "research" child porn for an autobiography?? WTF??? That's even more lame than Winona ... at least her shitty, sad transparent lie makes more sense.
