The obligatory mainstream top 10 albums of 2002 list
Top Ten Albums in 2002: (but not really in any order)
1. DJ Shadow – The Private Press
2. Scarface – The Fix
3. Blackalicious – Blazing Arrow
4. Jurassic 5 – Power in Numbers
5. Marianne Faithfull – Kissin Time
6. Missy Elliott – Under Construction
7. Beck – Sea Change
8. Sigur Ros – ()
9. White Stripes – White Blood Cells
(Sure all the cool kids had this last year, but technically the album was re-released this year, so I’m counting it.)
Thirteen-way tie for number 10 (category formerly known as “Honorable Mentions”):
Eminem – The Eminem Show (So overwhelmingly loved and hated that it’s practically cliche either way. But the album IS good.)
Nas – God’s Son
The Donnas – Spend the Night
Buffy Musical – Once More With Feeling
Kylie Minogue – Fever
Beth Orton – Daybreaker
Best of Bowie – 2 CD (sure, none of this is NEW music, but damn does it sound good, especially in one collection)
Phantom Planet – The Guest
Andrew W.K. – I Get Wet
The Roots – Phrenology
J-Live – All of the Above

It seems I’m the only music loving person in the world who doesn’t know the Wilco, Coldplay, or Flaming Lips albums. Maybe I’ll put them on next year’s list if I pick them up in the used bin.

2. Missy's album is just wonderful. I mean, anyone who samples "Doubledutch" is A-OK in my book.
3. I want the new Nas album.
4. Unfortunately (in my humble opinion which doesn't count), The Donnas haven't put out a decent album since their first one. Now that was some good shit right there!
