I like to welcome buddha back to the show today. I leant him out to a co-worker who needed some calming like nobody's business. She returned him to my monitor this morning.

Last night I spent almost the entire time at my workstation. I finished up editing and compiling the sound for Poet Friend and then started dubbing all sorts of mad shit, like her two-disc Steely Dan set as well as copies of mixtapes for some various folks. Speaking of, my poll yesterday? Damn, folks. I had no idea it would be so successful. There were livejournal people I'd never seen before wanting me to send them a mix, so big props to new friends and music swaps. I'll probably start e-mailing folks next week with confirmations and my address and all that fun stuff.

Sophie wasn't happy with my preoccupations yesterday evening. She knocked the playstation 2 off the shelf, she spilled and broke my glass of milk, and she chewed up the tub stopper. The tub stopper. The dog went into the bathroom, climbed into the tub, and found the stopper. She must have a rubber addiction which supercedes her fear of baths and the tub. She even hopped in while we were brushing our teeth last night, as if to show off how clever she is. Oh, and she clawed my face last night while trying to get my attention. She's like a toddler who tugs on your sleeve until you turn to listen, except with her lack of opposable thumbs, she unintentionally mauls instead of pulls.

This morning she clawed at me again, though not as hard. She was really excited about my singing "My Cherie Amour" to her. I guess she's a big Stevie Wonder fan, which doesn't surprise me. She has good taste.
Today's mission, should I choose to accept it: finding a pair of black pants.

but does your buddha drink espresso and talk on a cell phone? my does. he's the buddha for manic multi-taskers like myself (lady lynx). (note to self: never tell your friends that you are studying a religion as they will think it is funny to buy you gag gifts referencing that religion).

and my dog growing up loved when i'd sing "very superstitious writings on the wall..."

dogs must just love stevie. and who could blame them really.

Curly likes Native American flute music and the sound of a baby crying. He went up to paw the TV screen and investigate the speakers. He put his ears back and looked anxious at the noises the "zombie cat" made during Buffy.

Sophie is FASCINATED with scary movies and television shows, I think because of the high-pitched eerie music and the screams. But last night I caught her watching Joe Millionare. Seriously. The television was on mute and I looked up from my headphones and saw her on the couch staring intently.

I sing My Cherie Amour to my little kitty girl. But she usually looks horrified when I do that.
I should stop.

How do you know the clawing while singing is a *good* thing?

I know this is terribly geeky of me, but I'd love to hear more about what equipment and software you use for doing your mixes.

Did you accomplish your mission? I swear, 75% of my pants are black. It used to be 95%, but since transitioning I've found myself experimenting with colors. My family are amazed.

I'm very basic in my mixing -- I have two crappy turntables that have really expensive cartridges and a nice Behringer mixer (with a 5-second sampler). Then I user a Sony dual tape deck and a TEAC CD-Recorder (rather than using a computer to burn CD's). I have an Akai MPC2000XL that I still don't know how to use fully (!!) and hasn't been integrated into my mix making process yet.

Also, I did the same thing with shirts -- I made myself only buy real colors, rather than shades of grey and now I've found I don't have enough dark grey and black!

MPC2000XL, yum... I know what you mean though, I've had my Dr. Rhythm for 6 months and I'm just getting around to really learning how to program the damn thing.

I don't know anyone who's got Behringer eq, but I'm in the market for a good mixer (preferably with BPM) and it looks like they've got good prices. Are you happy with yours?

Also interested in how you decided to go with the Teac rather than using a computer to burn.

Looks like I'm about to step up to Technics 1200 MK2's -- been waiting to find a good used pair for a good price, and I finally have. I had a feeling I would; direct drive turntables are getting to be like any other musical instrument now where someone buys them, tries them, and it just doesn't work out for whatever reasons.

I felt using a computer to burn would lose too much audio quality. I found this CD-R for about 200 bucks and I can plug anything into it -- analog, digital, coaxial -- so I have good versatility.

Plus my computer is old and sucks and to replace it would be more that 200 dollars. ;)

Ooooooh, new tables. I nearly bought a pair of Numark TX1's last fall on credit but decided I shouldn't acquire that much debt on top of what I already have!

I like my Behringer a lot -- from what I've read, they just aren't that popular in the States, but lots of European folks use them. I'm quite happy with mine. To be real, I don't really like the Vestax mixer that everyone and their mother uses with the Technic tables.
