You like me. You REALLY like me.
Jul. 7th, 2003 08:33 pmOkay, so I'm feeling a little TOO validated by a recent experience. Namely that Teresa Strasser replied to my e-mail.
Dear Teresa,
In the last six months, I've ended a relationship of two-years with someone I lived with, fell in love with someone new, decided to go back to grad school, and in the meantime started looking for a new day job that won't suck the life out of me so I can possibly still do my writing at home in the evening.
But that's not quite enough for me. I decided a couple weeks ago I also needed a new hobby. Something small to collect or enjoy, a simple pleasure to take me away from the major stressors of everyday life. Previous hobbies have included watching daily syndicated episodes of Sisters, collecting decks of Tarot cards, and books on BDSM.
I've been somewhat addicted to episodes of While You Were Out since last fall, but I decided to take the next step and actually visit the website of the show, in part to drool over photos of the cast, I admit. At this time, I will refrain from the obligatory "why aren't you with Andrew?" comments, in part because I'm secretly afraid that such an affair would cause a rip in my space-time continuum because it would be too much pretty and clever and sexy all in one space. So to speak.
Anyway, I noticed you had your own website AND your own syndicated column, so I decided my new hobby is "following the career of Teresa Strasser". Some may worry this is code for "stalking", but I'm far too lazy for such an investment. Besides, that would be more of a career and less of a hobby.
I also wanted to let you know how validated I felt in my fanship when I read your essays, confirming what I believed from your side comments and on camera jokes on WYWO, namely that you are a smart and talented one, who's beautiful to boot. And you linked to an article that articulated my own thoughts of wanting you to be MY fag hag. I think my drag king girlfriend wants you to be his fag hag as well, and I'm thrilled I can share my hobby with a loved one. A dream come true.
I hope you enjoy your illustrious position amidst my years of temporary pop culture fixations, and hopefully you won't end up in a pile by the bookcase along with my excessive texts on the open source computer movement (what was I thinking? I'm not THAT geeky).
Best,
Raymond
And here's what she wrote back:
Raymond -
You crack me up. Thanks for your note.
I've always been way too lazy for stalking myself, so I totally understand. I
think a half-ass fan is better than none at all.
Thanks again for writing -

Date: 2003-07-08 12:24 pm (UTC)yes. i think we all need to come up with a way that teresa strasser would want to make following US HER hobby...how awesome would it be to have her as our fag hag? she'd bring andrew along for dance nights out (because you know he's a fag). dreaming...
