raybear: (while you were out)
[personal profile] raybear
From the past couple days, I've discovered:

1) Several people in my life, not necessarily related, are on a Twin Peaks renaissance, specifically the part where Agent Cooper tapes messages to Diane. It's contagious. On the train this morning I said jokingly in my brain "Diane, I dreamt that my subconscious had children. Remind me to look into birth control at the imagination pharmacy."

2) If white liberal guilt is one side of a coin, the other side is "black people love me!" phenomenon.

3) Last night I watched Talk to Her and the night before I watched Punch-Drunk Love. While I'm a big fan of interesting quirky weird beautifully-filmed fcked-up character type movies, seeing too much of them suddenly makes the movie Bad Boys II look appealing.

4) I supposedly chose the name "Raymond" randomly, but later many connections to the name from childhood started to surface. Last night I realized that my DJ name of Boywonder (and drag name of Wonderboy) came partially from Roy Hobbs's bat in The Natural. I had forgotten that connection. I know the name DJ Boywonder implies a strong Batman and Robin influence, but I really don't have one.

5) I love baseball movies and know way more about the game and its history than I thought, but I don't watch baseball games at all nor do I have any team affiliations (no matter how often I wear a Yankees cap).

6) If you buy the As Seen on TV album called "Totally Hip Hop", you can dance around the room and pretend you're at one of my Kingdom Come gigs at Circuit. Seriously. I play two-thirds of those songs in my mix. I'm not sure if I'm flattered or embarassed.

I have [livejournal.com profile] herfiereceness's tapes of episodes like 1-8 of Twin Peaks waiting for me to finish watching them. The problem is that I don't seem to enjoy them as much when I'm not in an altered state, and I haven't had the time or inclination recently to spend an entire evening in that state. Soon, maybe.

I loved Talk to Her, but yeah, it was beatifully fucking weird. Especially that whole silent movie sequence.

Hey, wanna have dinner or something next week?

I'd love to!

I'm looking forward to your performance on Saturday -- I've heard nothing but raves about the dress rehearsal!

Fabulous. Let's make sure to set that up this weekend. My schedule is pretty wide open right now.

I'm really looking forward to the show, too! The dress rehearsal was a really good thing for me. I gotta tell you, it does not suck to have 25 people erupt in cheers when you strip off your clothes. 600 can only be better.

re. #4, i ALWAYS forget which you are -- boywonder or wonderboy. doh.

and re. #6, be flattered. the Totally Hip Hop creators obviously bit off you and think you're super cool...

Oh, shut up. Bad Boys II looked appealing to you from the get-go and you know it.

In answer to your #2 and [livejournal.com profile] nabnag's question, in fact there is a website. I was gonna post it to your "ghetto" conversation after [livejournal.com profile] dommeyourass's comment.

www.blackpeopleloveus.com

Yes, I LOVE that site. My favorite part is photo caption is "Is the roof high enough? Or does it need to be raised?"

That's my favorite part. They should be my brother and sister. They're sooo funny.

what I can't decide is whether the letters of the people who don't get it and in turn call them racist in really racist and homophobic ways are so bad they're funny or so bad they're sad.

hey there, you. did you see my ([livejournal.com profile] thisjune) TP entry earlier this week? becuase if you didn't- and it's not one of the references you'd already heard- then i'm really creeped out! i wonder what brought twin peaks back into everyone's consciousness? fascinating. i blame the planets- and whatever they're doing, as i always do.

i've always had an affinity with diane, so where people see themselves in that agent cooper/diane dynamic really intrigues me. :)

and it's been nice to see you so much lately! i'm making my calls to get kumasi to t's tomorrow for the pubquiz.
wanna help? jennxoxox

I will see you at T's tonight too -- you're stalking me! Or maybe I'm stalking you. I can't remember. ;)

did we talk about stalking re: wywo? like you- i'm also too lazy to stalk, so maybe between the two of us we'd be a proper stalker! but then we'd have to agree on someone, and i prefer the amy wynn pastor carpenter lady on trading spaces... lol.
see you at t's jennxoxo
