I can turn back the hands of time - you better believe I can

Everyday between the hours of three and five pm, I get ridiculously exhausted so much so that I'm struggling to keep my eyes open. Several times a week this results in me falling asleep on the train on the way home, which I don't mind except it's not a very long nap -- when I lived in Evanston it was perfect because I got a 45 minute nap on the train and felt refreshed in time for dinner and the evening.

I went home last night planning to nap, but ended up having some "alone-time" as I'm known to call it that lasted longer than five minutes. When I was done, I was too hungry to nap, so I got up and fixed food. After spending some time online, making a few phone calls, and watching chunks of Queer Eye on the Straight Guy, I was ready to be in bed, even if I wasn't sleepy, so I went through my rituals and got cozy with the pup and a book and a magazine. I drifted off to sleep to the sounds of Waldeck's The Night Garden.

I woke up at midnight to the phone. I talked for awhile but can't remember much of what was said, except after I hung up I put on clothes and Sophie thought she was going out again, but instead I found myself gliding out into the night alone. I mean, I'm sure from another's perspective I was actually stumbling through the night and across town, but I felt sort of high and outside myself, moving effortlessly and floating on instinct. Wearing my house shoes probably added to the dreamy effect.

All for the reward of sliding between the sheets and finding that other body to curl up against and fall asleep next to. It was a very "first month honeymoon" type action, in some ways. Lay with me because you wish to, not out of obligation.

Tell me something about Boston.

the lull of the subway can't help bringing dreams

i really enjoy reading your entries. it sounds like you had a great day, all-in-all. i just discovered 'queer eye for the straight guy' this weekend when i was honeymooning with jaime in new hampshire at her house-sitting job. I loved it, needless to say, as well as the other 500 direct tv channels, movie channels and 5 'adult' channels. i'm not normally a big tv fan but needless to say, i was sucked in. this response is arbitrary...i wanted to comment on the show and send a little love your way, i suppose. hope you're having a good one.

My sister lives there. And my brother lives just outside. I've been there more times than I've been to Chicago, but only because I lived within an hour of it on two separate SPIKES. Its one of my top three destinations. South Street Diner across from the South Station has the best cheap food I have ever had. I once cheated on my girlfriend there. I also once slept with someone who was cheating on her boyfriend about an hour from there. I was riding on the subway here in Philly and heard two people converse on how Boston wasn't a real city, it was a rich people's city. They then related Philly as a poor people's city, but that's not about Boston, that's about Philly.

Don't know anything about Boston really. But I can relate to that exhausted feeling in the late afternoon. Damn circadean (sp?) shit taking over. Like clockwork. But damn it if I'm not wide awake around 11pm.

I don't know much about Boston, except for they have at least two great vegan chinese restaurants and also it is the home of three of my dearest friends in the world, although my very favorite of those friends in moving to nyc at the end of the month. I went to a good wine store there and, of course, they have an H&M.
Late afternoon crashes are often relatied to midday sugar or caffeine consumption. I almost never have sugar or even carbs anymore, so I also almost never have crashing either. Happy body, sad mouth.

I thought of you yesterday when I found a random plastic bag stuck under my couch, left behind from my houseguest. It was from H&M.

I think my midday crashes are definitely related to midday sugar binges, usually from post-lunch dessert, along with morning caffeine consumption. So then I start doing afternoon caffeine consumption to push through, and I end up feeling strung out in the evening. At least I'm not really smoking much on weekdays -- usually only one a day, if that.

I need more protein-based snacks in the afternoon to help maintain my blood sugar, but they aren't as tasty as chocolate and cookies and cake. Sad mouth, indeed.

I love reading your entries, not just because they're always so well-written, but also because for some reason, we're in the same space right now, though I think you're a little farther along on the path. It's nice to see what may lie ahead.
