How do people sleep at night?

raybearOne of my points of irritation is hearing the phrase "you're such a guy."1 I mean, I'm okay with it in a playful or kidding manner, and sometimes I'll even make the joke myself when it comes to some behavior. For example, "I watch porn most every morning....Yeah, I know, I'm such a guy." But I'm always perplexed when in the middle of a discussion or I'm telling some story that doesn't really seem to be gender-related in any shape, form, or fashion, and the person I'm talking to busts out with "You're such a guy!" in a very genuine declarative way. I don't even know what it means really, and it kills me hearing it from the person who's usually saying it -- almost always someone who is feminist and/or queer and/or believers in a gender nonbinary and/or social constructionists when it comes to identity or at least non-essentialists.
I'm sure it's just that old habits die hard, but sometimes I wonder if it's a way of them feeling compelled to validate my gender, which I guess is sweet and all, but I don't really need it. I especially don't need it done about something trivial and not really dependent on gender. I might be noticing it more after having a conversation with Former Texan on Sunday and trans and gender and talking about how I feel like a polygendered/nongendered person internally with a male body. Or a trans-bodied male physical self. Then again, I think everyone's brain is (or at least has the ability to be) nongendered, it's just most people aren't paying very close attention.
But anyway, my mild annoyance at this issue today has been massively trumped by my irritation and disgust after reading in the newspaper an article about a Chicago cop caught in a burglary sting found this statement:
"If you think you're going to engage in criminal behavior and hide behind your star, it's not going to happen," police Supt. Phil Cline said.
HAHAHAHAHAHA! WhatFCKINGever.
