I tried very hard to not mention the whole Janet/Justin thing, because it's already so stupidly saturated and especially since I didn't even see it as I got bored during the halftime show and turned it off, but I have to mention two things.
1) I'm quite tired of the overt and subtle sexism and misogyny in all the talk about Janet when it comes to her body (the breast, the piercing, all of it). Snide comments about need for implants or whether she was "saggy" or how she's "old" or "past her prime", etc. etc. ad nauseum. You may think you're being cute and catty and clever, but really you're just playing the same note in this cultural song known as hating women's bodies.
2) From the photos and the replay, I'm extremely squicked by it. Not because of the nudity or the lack of creativity, but because whether the intention was fake or real, I'm triggered by a guy ripping off a woman's clothes, either without permission or implying it was without permission. Oh, and there's the racial element on top of it. But I forgot, most people don't think that's not okay, or at least don't notice.
I'm done with my critical commentary on stupid moments in pop culture.

Date: 2004-02-04 10:50 am (UTC)Thank you.
Date: 2004-02-04 10:55 am (UTC)And the commentary I keep hearing is, "Why would she be wearing the nipple sheild if she wasn't planning on having her top ripped of." - it sounds a little too, "She wore that short skirt, she was asking for it..." to me.
Re: Thank you.
Date: 2004-02-04 12:21 pm (UTC)EXACTLY! I was wondering the exact same thing: Why is it that the only questions that were asked were about her intentions and her sleaziness? That's really annoying. And I'm pissed at the fact that what insulted/disgusted/offended the Super Bowl production guys is the actual sight of Janet Jackson's bare breast.

Date: 2004-02-04 11:16 am (UTC)and then some lady called in to say she was glad about the FCC investigation because the moral fabric of our nation has gone to heck and there is too much sex and nudity and bad language on tv. Not to mention all the homosexual propaganda. Yes. Homosexual propaganda. "they're trying to make it look like its ok" and something about the "homosexual movement taking over power in hollywood"
and then i bought a gun just so I could shoot out my radio.
muh
