I'm home again. I think I have meningitis. Ok, maybe not, but I am sick in almost the EXACT same way that I was sick in December while at school -- the only symptoms are achey muscles, specifically back, and feeling tired and slightly swollen tonsils. I need more sleep. I have thought about the consequences of missing three days of work this week, but what are they really? And what could I do about them anyway?

I went all day yesterday without coffee. It was an accident. Now I'm wondering if it's the source of my troubles. I think I'll sleep some more, then drink a whole pot at noon to fuel my writing.

I got an e-mail from [livejournal.com profile] dommeyourass! I wrote her back. Now I'm sleepy.

Have I mentioned sleeping yet?

I find his attitude sort of refreshing....

Most of the people who want to be artistes now would totally sell out and direct Home Alone 12 (McCaulay Culkin wreaks revenge on his inattentive parents by placing them in separate nursing homes. Tagline: "Who's Home Alone Now?") if they had the chance - you can't live on coffee and student films forever. At least this guy isn't going to hate himself for it later on - he's already like "I want to entertain people, and I want to make money."

I want to entertain people, and I want to make money, and I also want to make them think while I'm doing it. But I'm saying right now - if some Hollywood Honcho wanted to offer me megabucks to direct the next J. Lo vehicle, I'd accept with as much grace, professionalism, and integrity as I could and use the cash to fund some indie effort. It's a really hard profession to break into and get by in, and I've started being a lot more forgiving of people's choices.

Also, for your sake, I hope he's cute.

Agreed. I know actors who do the same thing -- star in mainstream movies to pay the bills so they can also do indie efforts. If only that happened more often. Also, I wouldn't be mad if Oprah chose my book for her club, even if I'm not writing with that intention.

I think I was less horrified by his statement about wanting to make commercial films and more horrified that he deemed Chocolat and My Big Fat Greek Wedding as examples of "indie films". [livejournal.com profile] dommeyourass and I talk about the category of movies that are "mainstream indie", the movies that people who usually only see Jurassic Park and J-Lo movies might watch and go "hey! that's pretty good! those sundance people aren't so weird after all!" but people who regularly partake of foreign and indie films see them and think "eh, that was just okay. sorta mainstream."
