My jeans today aren't that tight but my package looks a little obscene when sitting down. I do have a lunch date, so perhaps it's a bonus. This guy is the only one to write me back from the Nerve ads (so far) and he seems rather laidback and interesting, which is good. I'm just not really in a dating mindset. Frankly I'm so obsessed with myself right now, no one could be as interesting as me. Alright I'm not quite that bad. It's a lunch date with few expectations (or even interest), so it might surprise me and turn out well or it might just be a one-time lunch at a diner with a stranger which I seem to have a history of collecting. If they asked me, I could write a book. (About the way you walk and whisper and look....)

Speaking of breaking into song, my morning walk to the train was made amazing by blue skies and sunshine and the sounds of April, sometimes known as Ghostface Killah. I'm going to be a strange 40 year old man who embarasses my child by listening to my "old music" in the car and singing along to Supreme Clientale. But that's okay, because [livejournal.com profile] thebrownhornet will be doing it too.

I don't really know what to say about last night's murder mystery party other than it was a lot of fun and really really gay and not because it was being played by a bunch of queers -- the game itself was super-gay even though it was not marketed that way. I wonder if the game designers were a bunch of homos who decided to be subversive and funny.

Almost every morning this week I've woken up before the alarm. Actually last week too, and maybe the week before. Hell, Tuesday night I took a step further to test myself out and didn't even set an alarm but still woke up. But today was the first time I actually got up, rather allowing myself to doze back and then be jolted by the noise. Instead I just got up at 7:15 and did my morning writing and some e-mail and music prep for tonight's DJ gig, then turned on the coffee pot and crawled under the covers for a few more minutes of snuggling and cuddling. Then I got up, watched some porn, hopped in the shower and got dressed. I think I like this new morning ritual. Of course, I'm yawning now and could fall right back asleep. I'm all about the mid-morning nap. When I start making my own hours, I know I'll probably get up early every day to do random work for two hours, then go back to sleep for awhile at 10 o'clock. What am I, an infant?

Talking about sleep doesn't make me less sleepy. This is a prototype entry, the real one might come later.

Cancer (June 21 - July 22)

Your April horoscope by Susan Miller

Career developments are starting to bubble up! If you are in the market for a new position, you could hear exciting news very soon. The year's first eclipse on April 19 will be in Aries and will set your tenth house of promotion, fame and reputation ablaze. Even if you think you are not looking for a new job, you may change your mind after this new moon solar eclipse.

Eclipses work differently than normal new moons in that they usually introduce outside influences and conditions over which you have no control. News is often surprising in some way, and that's why most astrologers feel that even good eclipses can bring some tension. Don't worry, however. Eclipses have a way of leading us to the right direction, if not immediately then in time.

Solar and lunar eclipses bring both beginnings and endings, and this one will bring both. You may be quite enthusiastic about the "ending" if it means giving up a job or a monster boss you never liked. If you are confronted with an ending against your will (for example, if your company downsizes a large number of workers due to a merger), don't assume the worst; this could mean something MUCH better is about to pop. I say that because the April 19 eclipse will be a NEW moon, not a full moon eclipse — and new moon solar eclipses tend to bring fresh starts.

If you are unemployed and have had problems finding a new position, this eclipse may provide the lucky break you have long awaited. (Your "ending" could be the end of unemployment!) It is equally possible that you will receive an interesting phone call from a headhunter to interview for an amazing job. If so, you should investigate what's being offered, as eclipses tend to present highly potent situations. And remember, you don't HAVE to see any ending at all — this eclipse COULD be all about beginnings.

It is also possible that you may learn your present boss is about to leave the firm, and this may cause you to reassess whether you want to stay on now that someone else will take his or her place. While this news might throw you into a spanner (your boss used to protect you), it might also make you consider some interesting job possibilities you would have never have investigated otherwise. Sometimes we feel we are not ready to go to the next level of responsibility, but the universe knows better. Everything speeds up at eclipse time, and for you, and the acceleration is about career.

You may break out and start your own business. Or, you may decide to work in sales, where you are paid on performance. With this eclipse in Aries, the sign of entrepreneurial ideas, that would be possible.

Last month had a new moon in Aries as well. (This is rare, to have two new moons in a row!) This says career developments were "in the air" near March 20 and in the days that followed. Look back to your calendar — is there a seed of an idea that came up then?

By the way, if you sense many changes are being planned by management (or a client) but you can't get details about what is going on, know that you will get the answers you need near April 19, and even more information will come to you in May.

Here is an idea I wanted to offer you. Taking some quick courses to brush-up skills relevant to your field could put you on a faster career track. I say this because Jupiter, the planet of luck, is now touring your solar third house. This house is not related to college degrees — that is your ninth house — but emphasizes quick ways to gather information. It would be wise to sign up for seminars, weekend classes and so forth near April 28.

This day, April 28, would also be ideal for a business trip — talks on the road could be quite profitable. With Jupiter in a perfect angle to the Sun on this date, you will have a jewel of a day! The Sun naturally rules your solar second house of money! This day gets three "wows" from me!

This month's eclipse will challenge Cancers born at the very end of their sign, near July 21. If you were born near July 21, don't freak out — such good things can come out of this eclipse!

Why do I feel things will work out for you, no matter when your birthday falls? This eclipse will be exceptionally well angled to Uranus (surprises), Pluto (power and transformations), Mars (action) and Saturn (stability). Most of the time we are happy with one good aspect, but this eclipse has four! Mars is the natural ruler of your house of fame and honors, so this bodes very well for you.

Even if your lucky break doesn't happen immediately, keep looking for it — like a pretty basket of chocolate eggs, it will be hidden. To find the goodies you have to hunt for them. They are there!

Even if you should find that things go wrong at eclipse time, you still will have lots of reasons to be optimistic. Pluto is based in a work assignment house, so you should at least be able to find various jobs to keep you going while you look for the next big thing. This trend will kick in after April 19.

Sometimes I imagine God looking down on us and deciding what kinds of challenges we need next. He may think, "John needs to get out of that horrible job. But he is loyal and he will never leave it on his own. I will have to give him a push. I will plan a merger or some other reason to create a downsizing. John will freak out when he gets fired, but once he does, I can help him get the wonderful new job I have in mind for him!"

I think eclipses work that way, so keep an open mind if something jarring should happen. Certainly this solar eclipse will be one of the sweetest eclipses to come around in a long time. I don't think you will have a problem with it but I can't see everything going on in your chart, dear Cancer. I have to allow for that possibility.

Think back to April 1996. Can you remember anything important happening for your career at that time? Back then you experienced quite a similar eclipse. Sometimes an earlier cycle holds hints for the present.

I suppose we should get to some of the other things going on in your chart this month!

First, realize that Mercury will be retrograde all month. Technically, this planet of communication, transportation, negotiation, commerce and contracts will be out of phase from April 6 to April 30. You probably began to see slowdowns, revisions and redesigns last month (starting in mid-March). Now, in April, the delays will become much more noticeable and commonplace.

This puts you in a bind. Mercury retrograde is not a good time to accept a new job or to sign new agreements, but with the heavy emphasis on career (and home, as you will see shortly) you may be pressured to move forward.

The reason it is best not to make major decisions this month is that Mercury retrograde is a time to look back, not forward. Also, in April the air will be filled with static making it easy to misread a situation. Information you're given now is likely to change, perhaps radically, later.

Making decisions when Mercury is retrograde is like trying to stand up straight in a sinking meadow. If you find just the right spot, you might be able to stand tall for a minute or two, but it's hit or miss, and certainly not a spot that will support you (or your decisions) for long. If you misstep, you will fall over and sink. (Well, maybe it won't be THAT dramatic, but I am trying to give you a picture that you will remember!)

What if you are given a great new job offer now? If the offer comes from someone you know from your past, you CAN accept the job immediately. Mercury retrograde urges us to make something more out of former relationships. In that case, don't hesitate to take the job.

What if you DON'T know the person you are dealing with from another time and place? What if you just met? Know that Mercury retrograde suggests the job will change in a way that you can't anticipate. Try to find a delicate way to ask pointed questions. Since you expect a few things to go haywire later, you will be more prone to ask a lot of "what if" questions. Good! Mercury retrograde can make you much more astute, and help you project into the future. Try to find out what you are not being told — you can almost bet there is SOMETHING. If you conclude that there is truly nothing being withheld, the person you are speaking to doesn't know the whole story — yet. In any case, see if you can drag talks out a bit.

It is also very possible that in the meantime you will get a better offer from another firm. That would happen about the time Mercury turns direct, on April 30, or shortly thereafter. You will be so relieved you didn't rush things if that second offer shows up. (After all, Mercury will retrograde in your tenth house of career so that is where you are going to feel this most.)

If you have to start a job now, your job description will change in time, sooner or later. Be flexible. In some cases it may be best for you to take the job. (For example, if you are running out of cash and you need to pay bills, take the job.) If you don't like how things work out, you can change jobs later; this current position may last about a year or so. Under some conditions, it is fine to take a stopgap job.

If you are starting your own business, however, don't incorporate yourself this month, and don't open your doors for the first time with Mercury retrograde.

Keep in mind that you can interview in April but I would rather you accept and begin your job in mid-May. When postponements and delays inevitably crop up, just remind yourself that these delays will benefit you. With Jupiter, the good fortune planet in your third house of negotiation, you will be able to come to quite a favorable agreement.

There is one little problem about signing contracts next month in that there is another eclipse coming on May 4. It is often wise to stay clear of eclipse periods when making a decision. (Luckily, that one — in Scorpio — will be in a better angle to your Sun.) If you can't navigate around all these dates, it is more important to avoid Mercury retrograde.

Eclipses often bring on life events — marriages, births, promotions, new homes, graduations and so forth — so chances are, something big will come up for you or someone you know around these eclipses. Go with the flow.

Your home or family may also be a big focus now. Watch the time near April 5 (plus or minus four days) when a bright and friendly full moon in your fourth house of home will bring you a powerful chance to improve your living arrangements. Perhaps you plan to relocate to take advantage of job opportunities in a different city — this full moon suggests the move will come before the job.

I love this full moon, because it will be friendly to both Neptune and Pluto. Neptune is in your house of other people's money, suggesting you will have productive discussions with a bank about a mortgage, or that you will be able to sell a piece of property.

Pluto is in your work assignment house, suggesting if you had to change cities, at least you would be able to find part time work or freelance assignments fairly rapidly. Family support for your aims should be strong too, always a comfort.

Mars will spend the whole month in your solar twelfth house, suggesting that you are having quite a number of confidential meetings. Perhaps your talks for your new job would explain your need for a heavy layer of secrecy.

It is also possible that, romantically, you are involved in a clandestine relationship that puts you in the middle of a love triangle. In that regard, you might want to ask yourself whether this relationship is one you really want. Venus and Mars are together in this "let's keep things secret" house, and that's a sexy combination. But later, when Mars moves into your first house of identity in May, your secret could easily be revealed.

I know life in general has been hard for you, but having a side relationship could only complicate things, dear Cancer. I am not sure about what I see in your chart, but if it is what I suspect, I would suggest you end one relationship before entering another. My bet is the eclipse on May 4 will force things in that direction anyway. I know I am only speaking to a small percentage of readers, but I see this highly emotional situation (that only will become more emotional next month) so I felt compelled to say something. All I ask is that you reconsider.

Romantically, last month was difficult for many Cancers, but this month should be a little better. You seem to have reached some sort of truce or plan of action last month. You will probably have another romantic workout next month at the eclipse on May 4. (A lot depends on how much you settled last month with a present attachment.) For now, things seem calm, and you can be grateful for the peace.

If you are attached and have not had problems, you have a bit of an edge this month, especially on your gold-star day, April 28. In addition to other good aspects, the Sun and Saturn (ruling your natural solar seventh house of relationships) will be on amazing terms. If you need to discuss something important that you have been hesitant to bring up, this is your day. You should get a loving response.

If you are single, you need Mars' upcoming visit to Cancer (from early May onward) to give you that special sparkle. Hold tight and wait through this month. If you have a friend who wants to set you up on a date, or if you want to answer (or place) and ad, go for it. Having Mars and Venus in the twelfth house would favor that type of situation. Your best date weekend will be April 10-11, and Sunday, April 25, a terrific time to travel.

You have so much on your plate this month, so give your first priority to your career, and get your home life settled, too.

Summary:

The new moon eclipse on April 19 could easily bring you the year's biggest and most exciting professional breakthrough — be ready to follow up in the days, or weeks, that follow. You'll need to keep career talks confidential until next month, but after May 7 you can shout your successes from the rooftops.

Romantically, attached Cancers will have an edge this month, as romance with a long-term partner seems assured near April 28. Be wary of clandestine relationships or love triangles — your secrets wouldn't stay secret for long. You deserve something better.

Early in the month, your chart shows a sudden refocusing on your home, family and property. To a Cancer, this has to be happy news, because a comfy residence and harmonious home life is always a major goal. Watch the full moon on April 5, plus or minus four days, when a final decision will be made about a domestic or family matter.

When I start making my own hours, I know I'll probably get up early every day to do random work for two hours, then go back to sleep for awhile at 10 o'clock. What am I, an infant?

Or perhaps you're my girlfriend. That seems to be her usual schedule.
I prefer to get up around 10, not take naps and go to bed around 1AM, which I can only do on Saturday.
