Have I mentioned lately how much I love our new apartment? Even though it's a bit overwhelming at times with all the unpacking and organizing that needs to be done, for the most part I don't get too stressed out, even while banging my knees on boxes and misplaced bookcases. Speaking of knees, my right one is really sore today as if it's been hyperextended. I suspect the dog slept on my legs all night, causing the problem. I hate waking up with some mysterious injury, it's rather jarring.
I've slept so hard the past couple nights, I can't remember any dreams. And I wake up not wanting to leave.
dommeyourass mentioned wanting a whole week off to be in our house and I couldn't agree more. Maybe after this weekend it will be better.
Last night I read through the Entertainment Weekly summer movie preview guide and made a mental list of all the movies I want to see which has promptly been lost. Except for one: The Day After Tomorrow. No, for real. I've seen the billboards and it didn't have much appeal, especially because of the line "from the makers of Independence Day" or whatever. But then I read it was about the near future coming of an ice age and I flipped out. I sort of have this secret obsession with this idea. ( I guess it's not so secret now.) I actually have a book on my shelf called "5/2/01" that's practically a textbook detailing how a certain planetary alignment on that day would cause these major geological and meteorological shifts, causing a new Ice Age. Obviously that didn't happen. And I remember at the time I ordered it while working at the bookstore, Miss Rook thought I was strange. And she's right. It's not even that I really believed it would happen, I was fascinated by the scientific analysis and the possibility, the idea that we think the earth and climate is so stable and won't be effect in this lifetime. I mean, I was also the kid who freaked out in elementary school when we learned that one day California would probably break off and float (or sink) into the ocean.
Then a few months ago, I read this article on Alternet called The Ice Age Cometh which freaked me out. It's all about how global warming will cause a fast moving Ice Age. I've read this article approximately ten times. And it's immediately what I thought of when I read about this dumb movie. But what can I say? I want to go see it because I'm obsessed with the next ice age.
And it stars Jake Gyllenhaal. So that helps.
