So perhaps this is the kava kava talking, but I think my "insecurity anxiety" had become "excitement anxiety". Is this a temporary manic phase? Do I care? I won't look a gift horse in the mouth. What the fuck does that mean, anyway? Is it anyway related to the Trojan horse? Hmmm....

It's 11:11 -- make a wish.

it is indeed

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth is definitely a reference to the Trojan Horse. :) Not sure exactly what the mouth reference is about, but it generally means to be wary of things that looks golden.

But don't folks usually say "don't look a gift horse on the mouth" when they're telling to people to not second-guess something positive? As in, don't question? Colloquialisms are so weird.

Nope. Not the trojan horse (wouldn't that be 'don't look a gift horse in the belly'?)

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth makes sense if you know that you can tell the general age and health of a horse by it's teeth.

In otherwords, if someone gives you something nice unexpectedly, don't look too closely, or you might discover stuff you don't want to know.

JD (I know too much damn trivia)

yeah -- after I looked it up, I remember reading about the whole judging-horses-by-there-teeth phenomenon before.

Yay for trivia nerds!! We should have an LJ convention that include Trivia Pursuit.
