I had an intense dream last night, but it was kind of therapeutic. But before drifting off to sleep, I was in that half-lucid, half-dream state and constructed my lesson plans for teaching on thursday -- and not only do I remember them today, but they're good and I can use them. Which is helpful since I'm not longer paid for prep time outside of class. Thank you, Dubya, for cutting federal funding to after school programs. Though I did read they're offering bigger bonuses when you enlist because they're desperate for more soldiers. I'm sure that would be his helpful suggestion to my money plight.

Adakan, part of my infamous circle of school chums in L.A., asked me to come speak to her class while visiting. She might have been partly joking, but I said I'd take her up on it. I get drained by so much of the work surrounding teaching, but the teaching itself is fun for me, now that I'm finally learing to relax around kids again. I was so out of the habit, it took some time. Plus, I get to stand up and have lots of people listen to what I have to say, to actually DO my projects and get something out of it. What an ego stroke. But on the other end, I feel uniquely humbled when able to listen to what's going on with them and get outside of my own little insular head and world.

Done printing out my mailing labels. Back to work.

I teach an after-school creative writing/performance "club" for lgbtq youth. This year it's been through the city's LGBT community center as part of their programming, but next year I'm thinking of trying to teach a program within one specific high school because the turnout and commitment is higher.

I'm not sure I'm cut out for 'regular' teaching in the K-12 environment. I'd really like to teach college classes, though not academia, if that makes sense. I like alternative teaching environments: writing workshops, adult education, underserved populations, freedom to develop own curriculum, etc.
